So I called Nate at Pinks today to see what we can setup as far as representing the Z car a little bit better on National TV. Couldnt get ahold of him but left a message for him to call me back. I told him that I own a pretty reuputable Machine shop, that specializes in Z cars. So yea I Have A 1970 Series one 5xxx serial number car that Im willing to put up, with a L31DETT, project that many of you know about, this will give me an excuse to get the car done. I figure with a 1900 LB car, with 600 plus to the ground on the FIRST Retrofit KA head car. Man I cant tell you how bad I want this deal to go through. So hopefully Ill hear back from nate soon.

Since you aren't on teh 45 day deadline, you can sort out the car and make sure everything is working BEFORE you get there. If all the bugs are worked out and the car is consistently running good, then you have a good chance. What's bs is they tell the hybrid team to build a car in 45 days and some other guy BUYS a car and shows up. A sorted out race car and a garage built race car are 2 very different things. Anyone can BUY a car to race. I would like to see Brian's car kick butt.

The guys that did the build on hybridz put themselves into that spot. They contacted pinks before anything was ever done for a build. Pinks had a filming schedule to stick to.
The kids did an admirable job getting a car built in 45 days. But their planning sucked. The records for money and parts taken in along with what was used and spent, that's a different story.

All I have to say is I suspected as much after my questions went unanswered after the solicitation here was made.
Sad to see others now have some regrets, I declined to contribute based on that initial evaluation, and it seems my suspicions were well founded. That really is too bad.

I agree with Tony. I was very skeptical about the dealings when they were trying to get money. Seemed they wanted you to contribute, but wouldn't tell where or what your money was being used for. I guess they had to pay for beer somehow, but Rolling Rock!?!?!
I would contribute to Brian because I know what kind of stuff he can do. He may be secretive about where the money goes, but I've seen his work and have a much better feeling about it.

Even if he loses the car it would be an awsome learning experience with that KA head, and he'd probably be able to buy the car back anyways. So he'd get plenty of information on the tolerances of that head and learn what can be done (if anything) to improve upon it. And this sounds already like it would be a well planned out and organized venture.

I can think of a lot better place to prove the KA head than in a race where you might loose your car. You can put an L28 car in the 9's or high 8's for that matter without a crossflow head. I suppose if you give yourself plenty of track time before, it'd be all cool...but I'd like to see atleast 50 passes before I would want to put my car in that position. Good luck tho, can't wait to see the car run!

Oh I already have the forged block done, 3.1 liter, with tons of NICE work done. I have a P90 that the block was originally built for so Ill drop that combo in the series one, then bolt the head on there with the motor in the car. Oh trust me, tuning wont be a problem. I already have ALL the components, motor, trans guages, line locs, tires, wheels, axles, EVERYTHING. I wont have but 2-3 k, in this car, so its not a big loss regardless. I could do it all with a P90 but a KA head would just prove a point.
Oh and Bubbles, lets do some counting of how many things youve done wrong:

That RX7 was fast, that was another team that was kinda toying around. Not launching, not showing how much boost they could actually run. They were saying they only ran 10 psi. I was like BS my 88 turbo I was running 16 on the stock turbo!

I agree, the only way to win on pinks is to sandbag the hell out of the race. Im thinking something along the lines of limiting ignition advance to only a few degrees, then wick it up to 20btdc for the last race or something. that would unleash a few ponies. or, accidently pick up a "faulty" boost gauge that reads half of what it should...

That's what the RX7 guys did although the gauge was fine they just limited it's input with a valve, the real boost was controlled thru their computer. You can alway turn the rev limiter down so they can't say you lifted - it's just missing we don't know what's wrong!

hey... can slow Z's even go to SEZ?...i dont think id seriously run, just to maybe hang and get some tuning help.
i reaaaaaaly hope this goes through... id love to see Zcar take a win with one of 1fastZ's cars...

Of course you can run. We welcome all Z cars and really any other nissans or any other performance car. My first 2 SEZ's I was only running 15.7s. Its just fun and you can have all the track time to practice your launches and speedshifts you want. I think a memeber ran 21 times at the last one LOL.. Its just in all great fun!!..

gabe saw it! gabe and i were sitting in the line up talking and he told me to let some tire presure out- sure enough, when he and i lined up, i hooked up a lot better droping the clutch at like 5k rpm, and thats when i pulled my 13.9

When I went to the Texas Convention I made 26 passes on their 1/4 mile track, the announcer sounded a bit incredulous after about 15 runs making comments like "He must be local running this hard this many times!"
Eeh, 23 passes, three all-out Auto-X runs, and then back to the 1/4 for another three passes there before the day was over.
They will take it. I laugh when guys get afraid of breaking things---if it breaks, you fix it! Simple....

pulled the shroud, cut the fan blades to clear the tweaked radiator, and drove on.
In N.C. somewhere off the Blue Ridge Parkway cutting over to West Hillbilly I stopped for gas and noticed Green Slime all over the right side of the engine's hoses.
Fins at the tubesheet had cracked ever so slightly and it was letting fluid from the radiator leak out and evaporate.
It was low (below the top tubesheet) on coolant, so I added a half tube of ALUMA-SEAL (for all the doubters) and topped off with my 50/50 mix.
Good thing I stopped when I did, if I kept going, I would probably have seriously overheated.
Maybe even.....
