A&Q about 350Z
Q:

Well I just got to see Cat's 2007 C-13 engine today at work. Tell you about a clusterF*@K. estimated time to change a water pump for example is 18 hours, It has a spark plug in it too. yup, just one though. So ya So ya ECG, to a whole new level.
so ya exhaust go's through the turbo's of coure, then into another chamber (were the spark plug is),where more fuel is sprayed in if it is not hot enuff, where it ignights and burns off some of the bad stuff, then it go's into the DPF filter (huge muffler looking thing). were soot is filtered out and any other solid waist. then some of that gas is is circulated through a cooler then put back into the system again throught the turbo's, and then air to air. and through the engine again. so ya, lots of neet stuff. they say by 2010, you'll be able to put your face to exhaust stacks and breath. Don't know if I'll try that though.
oh ya any other Heavy equipment Tec's out there?

I spend my days working for a Kenworth Dealership (bodyshop manager), and nights working for Lonewolf. The 18 hours for the water pump seems pretty excessive, but I guess I'll have to take a look tomorrow at one of the new trucks on the lot, or look it up in the time guides.
Z luster, the water pump and spark plug were completely different thoughts (or should have been). There is no spark plug in the water pump...lol

Ya I am sorry it made sence to me, I was reffering to the water pump taking 18 hours to change cause, the right side of the engine is so jam packed w/t all this new stuff they have put onto the engine. The Left side is still some what cleaner.
The spark plug is not in the water pump it is located in the chamber where fuel is injected and burned with the exhaust, I guess to create a cleaner exhaust. I have not seen the engine in a kenny yet, only in a Pete. so Ya that will still probobly make no sence, but ya I was just trying to bring up the crazy thing's manufactur's are doing to creat a cleaner burning engine.
sorry for any confusion.

I thought this was about a diesel, but the word sparkplug came up.

So are the 2007's out already? I thought the diesel fuel had to be ULSD to run these new trucks without destroying the particulate filters? I bought a 2005 Dodge with the Cummins to avoid all this new EPA crap. Looks as though this will be my last new diesel truck.
BTW, for those that don't know diesel, the 2007's manufactured after Jan 1, 2007 will have to have all sorts of new emissions equipment on them, even the big rigs. The spark plug is there to clean out the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF). As the filter gets plugged with soot, the engine will squirt extra fuel into the filter and ignite it with the spark plug which will supposedly clean it out. I can see that the new diesels will be less fuel efficient and more expensive to buy. Plus the new ULSD has less energy than low sulfur diesel, so mileage will go down even more. =(

ULSD (ultra low sulfur Diesel for those that don't know) is out....check your pump when you fill up. So far there have been mixed results on the mileage drop. Some drivers say they've lost .5 mpg, while others say theres been absolutely no change at all for them. Only time will really tell.

Green, the good news is you won't have to buy a new diesel for a long time if you maintain yours. Hit the boards & make sure you fix the weak areas or you'll be spending some bucks when the warranty runs out.
Anyone can drive a new car.
