1981 280ZX gas tank cleanup

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

Anybody has cleaned a 81 280ZX gas tank? My Z stored for 3 years and does not start up. i changed the spark plugs, cables, distributor cap, rotor, cable to the ciol and gas filter. Does not start up withy new battery.
Was wondering if anybody has removed the gas tank and flush. How much work is involved and what lines needs replaced?
Thanks alot for any suggestions

There is an inspection plate under the rear carpet and pad you can remove to get to the top of the tank. Then take out the sending unit to inspect the tank.

I can't believe some people spend $15 on shifter bushings in the B trans

Thanks alot. After cleaning i guess I can put back from the same area? And what about the lines all the way to the pump and filter?

Once you get the inspection plate off the floor of the hatch you can see the lines coming and going from the sending unit. Look under the right rear to check out the fuel pump.
Make suree you get the right fuel hose that is rated for high pressure. If you spend less that $4 a foot you got the wrong stuff.
You don't need to drop the tank, with the inpsection lid and fuel sending unit off you can get a close look inside the tank without dropping it.

Search my threads.......BE VERY CAREFUL
There is a plastic baffel in the zx tanks, very easy to destoy if you use the wrong stuff
you can bascially chemically melt it and then it will destroy your whole fuel system
if I was you, I would remove the tank, try and clean it as best you can by hand (your arm will fit in the tank once you remove the sender)
Then flush with gas or alcohol
also, there is a great guy that will rebuild your sender, again search my past threads and you will find all this info...hope it helps
