A&Q about 350Z
Q:
that thinks maby it is time to update the forum software?
this forum has not changed (that i have noticed) since i started posting in '01..
it just seems very basic.. no options at all.. maby change it to the type of software that hybridz uses? or somthing simular?
::edit:: i did not realise there was a thread just below, addressing basicly the same issue.. but still this is very old school
not bitching.. just inquiring.. and please keep the "if you don't like it don't post comments to yourself...

i like it. in my opinion, the simpler, the better. not because im low-speed or dont know my way around the computer, either. if it ain't broke, why fix it? unless of course, it's a Z.

well, you can say alot about "if it ain't broke" but this is entirely too basic.. learning to use a more modern forum is not hard... and my biggest problem with this is, the threads don't go to the top when they are replyed to..

haha i just posted a thread kinda w/ the same idea behind it... like 5 or 6 down called.

A:
I'd have to agree that it is somewhat stupid how threads just "die" whether they're supposed to or not. I also don't care for the way every post in a thread is screwed up when some dummy posts a huge picture.
Also, you've gotta admit...this forum looks like crap with it's plain jane font and white/brown color scheme.
I like the actual setup of this forum better than classiczcars.com because they're swamped with subforums. That's the main problem with "every other forum". They just get carried away with organization.
I think as long as the same basic setup was used, newer software would be great!
You know guys, Z cars work just fine stock...so why do we modify them?! ;)

Didn't they try out the new post to the top before and it didn't work out? I think the overall site is wonderful as it loads very fast and works easily for people who are not lucky to have at least a cable or DSL connection. Maybe a color change would lighten it up a bit other then the 72 Nova SS baby poop green color :)

I wouldn't be opposed to having the option to change colors and the font as presented to me, but I think this is a good informational site that doesn't need all the flashy avatars and graphic sigs, etc... All that is cool on more of a discussion site where folks are shooting the breeze more, but I would find it distracting here.

Yes, they tried the "bump" feature here, and some dickweed exploited it to no end, and ruined the feature for everyone. Although, I wasn't really used to having the "bump" feature at zcar, it does suck sometimes when there's a really interesting thread that has to die.
Anywho, I stick with the masses: it works fine, just leave it be.

I have a hell of a time navigating other forums with all their funny faces and shnookies and whoozits and whatever. I eat cookies — I don't want them on my computer. In other words, the simplicity of this forum keeps me coming back. I rarely go to the others because they're too 'yahoo': ya gotta wade through too much crap to get where you want to go.
I also have a cellphone with no camera, no music, no ACDC riff for a ring and no cute little pictures. It rings, I talk. End of story. Simplicity, people. Less is more.

HUH?
No thread dies, you simply subscribe to it, and all responses are e-mailed to you directly.
You search for the post nuber, and in three clicks, the original post shows up.
Really, if you ADDHD guys would turn off FLAT VIEW, and go to looking at the forum in THREADED VIEW, you would find in some cases a WEEKS WORTH of posts shows up on a page, instead of the past three posts from "some idiot with large photos"...

Correct, but how many people actually do that? Generally, once the topic is towards the bottom of even the first page, I consider it "dead", because the post count usually comes to a hault, and relocates to new interest at the top of the list. Perhaps I'm just too spoiled from the automatic "bumps" of phpbb forums.

Oh Tony, by the way, I e-mailed you a while back about having a wierd fuel pressure fluctuation problem. After checking soooo many things, I sent the pump off to be rebuilt (it was having trouble priming up in the mornings, and it was becoming VERY noisy), and I was going to upgrade the feed from 7/16" to 1/2" or 5/8". Anyways, I unthreaded the feed line from the tank, but it was stuck on there, so I yanked at it, looked inside the fitting for the hose, and saw (what I believe to be) gas tank liner coiled and stuffed inside. I mean, I really couldn't see how any fuel was getting to the pump at all, there was SOO much stuffed in there.
Anyways, I removed the liner, installed the pump as soon as it returned from Aeromotive, and have had 0 problems so far :-). But, to be fair, it has only been driven about 50 miles since then, because I was going back in to tune some more with the TEC, and accidentally downloaded a default tune. Well, I should just be able to upload one of my previous tunes, and problem solved, right? Not whenever you format a computer and forget to backup the folder containing all of the tune files for it :-( So, I'm back to phase 1...anyways, just figured I'd bring you up to date, in case you were wondering.

This forum’s hierchical listing of topics is set up as FIFO (First In, First Out). But this is an automotive discussion forum unlike zcar.com’s technical forums which dispense technical advice to people who just need help.
I personally think it would be better if this forum, Car Talk, handled topics with the most recent post moving a topic to the top of the stack in a LILO (Last In, Last Out) fashion. The other technical forums can stay as FIFO. Almost all of the forums I frequent, both automotive and nonautomotive, use this posting rule. I don’t remember this forum’s experiment with LILO but if someone abused it, then that person should be bounced out of here.

Well, that's pretty much a moot point seeing as how few people will respond to/read threads that are off of the main page anyway.

No.. keep it. The benefits are much greater than you think. Running this server is extremely cheap compared to most, no signatures, bs pictures, videos, etc. for it to store. Don't fix what isn't broken. Look at 95% of cars on the road today, they aren't engineered to be better, they are just forcefully updated to get people to want to buy them.

But, I would like to see a color change. A simple change from brown to blue or some other cool (cool as in color hue) color would be nice. Takes less than a minute to do that plus slight changes keeps a forum fresh mentaly.
