A&Q about 350Z
Q:
I did "The Search" for help with removing a stuck/frozen/can't budge/rounded-off oil drain plug on my 1977 280Z - no luck! I have changed the oil on all my vehicles and never had a problem with a frozen oil pan drain plug - until now. I have purchased a replacement oil pan, drain plug & gasket, but hesitate to take on this project after diving under the vehicle and seeing the numerous bolts caked with grease at a neck breaking angle. Anyone have a remedy besides taking this to the garage and hoist it up for someone else to handle? The vehicle is a recent purchase and the oil is black as night.

A pipe wrench is probably the best "tool" at this point, and then replacement of the drain plug will obviously be necessary........
Then, it's a case of "how good" the threads are in the pan as to whether or not you can continue to use it.......You might be able to get an oversize plug at the parts store.............(they kinda cut there own threads) ....if you wanna go that route........

If my reply sounds offensive, TAKE IT AS HUMOR !! MUUUUHAHAHAHAHA !!

The Sears Bolt-Out tools work pretty well at removing rounded nuts. You may need to apply some heat in the area first. I recommend you clean the area thoroughly before applying heat.

maybe try a six point socket and pound it on, I have welded a large nut on the plug to get them out.....
p.s. be careful trying to heat the pan I had a friend blow his valve covers off a v8 trying to heat his pan because it was so cold engine had 0 oil pressure. Used a hand held propane torch and there was gas in the oil.......

Pipe wrench will be your best bet. First time I ran into that problem, I tried several things (hammering a socket on, trying to angle a chisel/punch to get the plug to budge) without much luck, but as soon as I busted out the pipe wrench, it couldn't have been easier. Larger pipe wrench = more leverage (or you could use cheater pipe)

Plug Q is answered. As for replacing the pan, well, if you'd mentioned what year Z it would help. It is possible to change the pan out with the engine in the car in first-gen Zs ('70-78) without jacking the engine up or even disconnecting it from engine mounts. I don't know if the same is true in ZXs.
