A&Q about 350Z
Q:
Just went and test drove 04 Sentra SER Spec V that one of my friends is considering buying. He wanted me to take a look at it, just to make sure everything looked alright. Being an 04, with only 28k miles, I told him he shouldnt really have to worry about anything. But he insisted anyhow, and boy Im glad I did, those things will FLY, and a blast to drive. I was amazed at the power it had. Ive drove the regular SER's before, but the spec v was a world of difference. Very nice cars. I have a couple questions....are there two different types of front ends? The one we drove wasnt the one that looked as good as the other, not as sporty, it had the front end of just a regular looking sentra? The one I like is SIMILAR to like the front end of a skyline, anyhow. Any common problems with these cars? Anything to look for? And they are asking 13,000 for the car? Fair price? Thanks for the help guys!

My friend had one that he put a header, exhaust and intake on. The intake caused the wire in the MAF to snap but besides that it was a fun car. He just put the stock intake back on and took it in to have the MAF fixed under waranty.

Besides the 2.5l engines having problems (see previous Sentra post) the only other thing I have heard is people complaining about the torque steer. I figure if it didn't have torque steer then they would be complaining that it didn't have torque!
As long as the motor is all sorted out they seem like a good buy to me.

sucky car. I've had more problems with my Sentra that all the other cars that I own combined! Dipstick top is plastic and WILL break off, sensors failed and left me stranded, brake rotors had to be trued up twice in 3 years, interior mis-fits and lots of injection-mold marks. Everything on the car is made as "cheap" as possible. If this was my first Nissan, I'd never own another.
Where is mine right now? Back in the Nissan shop with 2 more recalls. Parts won't be in till tomorrow...

Hybrid, do you have an SE-R, or a regular 1.8?
My wife drives a 2004 se-r spec-v, with the brembo brake package, it's fun to drive, I like it a lot. decent mileage and room for 5, maybe not an ideal long trip mobile, but it has been great, only problem we had was the drivers side front window seal, which looked to me like it wasn't glued on correctly at the factory, fixed under warranty.
91 Slicktop, the front end change happened in '04, 02's and '03's had the nicer (IMO) front, and slightly different taillights, but the '02's had different gear ratios in the 6 speed, something about 3rd and 4th being really far apart, ratio wise.
bottom line I think it's a great little car, and I've had zero trouble with mine...

Sure it's a fun littke econbox, but there is NOT room for 5 unless you have 3 small kids in the back and short legged people in the front. It needs to be 3 inches longer to seat 5 real people and that is also one of my gripes. When I drive the seat is so far back that rear seat people can;t have legs thicker that 1.5" OR i have to put the drivers seat forward and drive uncomfortably. I"d say is BARELY a 2+2 and a comfortable 2 seater.
Also, as said before, styling is getting very dated. The rounded doodle-bug look is about as sporty looking as an Edsel these days. If they updated it to look more like the crisp G35 styling and added 3" and spent $500 more on the interior, THEN it would be a nice little ride.

i have had my 03 spec-v for 2 years now and have had zero problems ,other than the ones that i have caused myself. its a good car, for what it is "a sporty 4 door econobox".
i had every bolt on and every suspension part for the car, and i was fairly impressed with it on the autox course. its back to stock now and i still manage to enjoy it.
