Q:
I have a sound clip of drag racing z's that I want to post, but there is alot of other stuff on the clip that I dont want to post. Is there a way without expensive programs, and using a basic program to only capture certain spots of a sound clip thats veiwable on windows media player?

There are a few programs that you can use. I 'm a little confused about what you are asking for, is this a mp3 file or is it a video file. Because you say sound clip but ask about viewable file with windows media player. If it’s just an mp3 file or other sound file format, search Google for mp3 file splitter or what ever file format it is. You should be able to find a easy trial ware program to use.

if its a video clip, you might be able to windows movie maker. If its an mp3 or other audio file all you need its a wave editor.

If you are trying to pull the sounds of the car out of a file that has many sounds in it, good luck. Separating the engine sounds from the tires/crowd/wind/whatever else was recorded is near impossible. Now, if you're just trying to cut out a few seconds of all audio within that time frame, that's much easier, and you can follow the advice of the posts above.
Example of what I mean, is when artists do remixes of songs. They are provided with versions of the song that have each element separated so they can play with everything they want, removing/adding different elements. If they were to take the song from the radio, all mixed together, they wouldn't be able to do a very good remix cause they would have every little sound to deal with.
Good luck.

If you are still interested do a google search for a program called "Audacity". This is a VERY functional sound recording/mixing/editing program and it is EASY to use.
to record a clip of sound/music begin by opening the program. then make sure to select Stereo Mix (beside mic volume). Then press the record button and begin your video. Audacity can stay in the background and it will record ALL sound coming from your computer (including clicks, background web ads, etc.)
When you are finished stop your video and then stop audacity. From here you will see a large blue waveform which you can easily edit (select + press delete).
after a couple seconds of cropping you will have the sound clip you want. All you have to do now is click file, then export as .wav or .mp3 and then share with the world.
If you want to delve further into the sound editing of the clip you can screw with the effects at the top. Anyone who wants anything more than simple cropping and effects must have Adobe Audition. With some finesse, Audition can filter out crowd noise, ricers that are staging, ricers that are on the strip, and pretty much anything a ricer can throw at you (as far as sound goes).
