I stay away from anyone who has a hotmail or yahoo email address. They are too easy to get and too easy to hide behind. That is usually the give away that the whole deal is a scam.

Yeah, I know all about hotmail. But sometime they are legit. Especially if they are yahoo, if you have yahoo as your ISP. You will have a yahoo addy.

Most legit yahoo accounts are a little more imaginative than just John_doe@yahoo.com. Most people who are actual customers have better usernames than that, but not all. Then there is the horrible grammar in the scam emails. Although, there are some terrible emailers out there who are legit. I've read some where I have to read it a few times to figure out what they want. Apparently no one uses spell check or even 4th grade english when they write emails...

I've lost count how many times this is posted, if they offer to send you a check then it's a scam plain and simple really and even more so if they offer to pay more than the actual sale price. If they're truely honest you shouldnt accept cheques anyway because as a golden rule for everyone you then dont have to worry about the scammers when they try, which they will.

Nothing wrong with a check. I wouldnt take a personal check though. But you will need to wait and make sure the check clears before handing over the car and title.

I listed my Jag in the local paper and received an odd internet relay call from one of these pricks. They said they were from FL. and saw the ad online (paper lists an online add as well). They wanted me to email them to talk about it. I emailed the address given (which was fishy to me in the first place) and received the usual crap so I explained that I would rather sell to a local buyer and they started sending spam to not only my email address but my cellphone! I had to turn off web services on my phone or change my number just to get the crap to stop.

i received at least 8 scam replies to my ad in this website---not certain ifmi even got 1 real bite--all wanted to launder money--probable counterfeit cashier's checques and money orders for overages--also some searches for info--do not give out your info to anyone looking for it--they want all your electronic stuff to add you to their lists of who to harrass. anyway--still looking for a real responder to my attempts to sell my cars and sail out of this over rated bay to points south and west. good luck.
