A&Q about 350Z
Q:
Hello Hello
Im 17 and I get my lisence this month, but now I have a problem with my first car.
I was originally working to completely restore a 82' 280ZX with dad as my first car, everything is done except the painting.
This is going to take some time, so until it is done, my mom was going to let me drive her 76' 280Z.
My uncle asked which Z I want, but obviously right now I need both (as he wanted the 76')
But now its different, he said he will buy whichever I don't want.
So its a choice now between the silver 76' 280Z-
Points:
1. I grew up riding around in it.
2. It has parts that used to be in Paul Newman's car from its previous owner being an auto cross racer.
3. Low gear rear end(I think thats what dad called it) for quick takeoff.
4. No rust.
Or the 82' 280ZX
Points:
1. The only one really is that I'm rather attached to this one too because Dad and I have done so much work on it.
Any suggestions? I know my uncle will tear up that 76' (The car had a Datsun competition transmission and he destroyed it, and he wrecked it many times.) and I want to save its history, or I could sell him my new one that I have been working on so long.
A:
Keep both!!!
Talk to your parents about it, sounds like your uncle is a tool that will destroy either car.
If you have to keep one I'd keep the 280z, classic lines, and plenty of potential for mods, you and your dad could work on it as well. Do a brake upgrade, suspension upgrade and of course my favorite V-8 conversion.
Just my .02 worth.
A:
if the 76 had been in the family, keep it there! dont let your uncle go destroy it!!!!
on the flip note, ZX's arent all that rare to find cheap yet, so if you feel down about it, you could always find another $500 ZX and do it ground up style again with your dad.

keep the 76 for obvious reasons.it's got a much better physical appeal imo.plus i'm very partial to silver, but the decision is yours.either way not a bad deal.
Z's are like woman maintenance,maintenance,maintenance!

A:
dont let your uncle pressure you into selling him either car . let him go find his own car to tear up. keep both. be happy!

Both are very nice looking and in good condition (except for the 82' really, that one is pretty much sanded dull with blotches of primer on it)
Vs.
Mom doesn't like driving her 280 much since its a stick, she suggested giving me the 76' and selling the 82' when it's done.
Personally, I want to keep the 76' 280 more, but dad has done so much work to the body, I don't want him to be mad or dissapointed.
Though, since he honestly doesn't wanna see that 280 in the hands of my uncle again, he may agree.
A:
SAVE THE 76! the car looks very clean in the pic . s30 bodys are getting harder to find in that good of shape. you cant go wrong with the O.G. look of a classic z. i think the zx looks like the 80s and reminds me of a transformer i used to have. i may be a little biased here cuase the 76 is my fav year. my first car was a 76 and a forced sale was its death ! i traded it with the intention of buying it back but that was not the case. the car got sold before i came up with the cash to get it back.so for 4 years i searched to find it ,to only find some one drove it to the ground and it caught FIRE. that bastard! than it went to a junkyard and was crushed for scrap. moral olf my story is , hold on to the ones you love.
(p.s. for the older guys OG is original gangster. just a lame say from my gen.)

I'm partial to the 76 but, there is no reason to sell either. You could finish the ZX & swap back & forth with your Dad. I'd certainly be happy to be able to justify another daily driver in the family. Let your Uncle find his own car.
Anyone can drive a new car.
A:
Ditto, keep the 1976 280Z. It has better lines and curves and more appeal.
The 2nd generation 280ZX looks good too. Try to keep both if you can. Try! Try! Try! Who says you can't have two girls at once???

About the transformer thing,
1rst generation Prowl was a 280ZX.
and there were 2 other cars that were 280ZXs as well, one of which was Silverstreak I think.
The 76's body is pretty straight for being wrecked as much as it has, you can see how the door kinda hangs down a little in the picture.
A:
if your uncle is just going to tear the hell out of either car tell him to look elsewheres and keep both. use one as a daily driver and the other for special occasions.
If all were equal, none would be strong.

Those were the days. A kid's dream. The best toys from Takara, made in Japan. They don't make toys like that anymore. Too many small parts, too much time and money. The Transformers of today DON'T EVEN compare to the ones, first generation Transformers, of the '80s.

Smokescreen:
One day, I'm going to get me a Datsun 280ZXT and paint it the same color as one of those Transformers. Re-live my youth, damn-it :) Back then I was a poor kid. Now I'm an adult with some disposable income.
Didn't mean to hijack the thread, but, yeah, try to keep the 280ZX. Don't let your "evil" uncle tear it apart.

I would pick the 76' also.

Is the 82 ZX auto or manual transmision?
If auto - problem solved - let mom drive it. The ZX is a cruising car and more comfortable.
DO NOT let uncle destructo have either car. These are classic cars not made anymore.
Next year the 82 will be an antique too (Texas = 25 years) and uncle should not destroy either one.
Really talk to your Mom & Dad about this and let them know how you feel.
The cars are paid for, they're working - you are way ahead of the car game since you are not buying one.
Please keep both or sell one to a responsible Z lover who will take care of it.

Get the 76! It is a much better looking car and is lighter than the ZX. I believe they handle better too. Your dad will understand.

A:
Yeah, the 82' is an automatic, I was gonna have it switched over to manual with a better engine though.
I should have mentioned this, but mom also has a 300ZX(we honestly have 7 Zs) thats automatic.
She likes that one better as it has t-tops.
My uncles kinda screwy right now trying to get off drugs, chances are we won't get rid of either car. I think hes just annoyed that Mom bought the 76' back from him since he needed money and now he feels cheated out of it.
whatever.
A:
Druggin will get you screwed. She could give him a car once his act has been clean for a while. Until then, he's on his own. Too bad it has to be that way.
Anyone can drive a new car.
A:
go with the Z if you HAVE to make a choice. It's been in the family, keep it there. You can/will put just as much blood, sweat, and tears into it as you did into the ZX.
