Sentra SE-R Spec-V

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

What do you guys think of this car? The reason i am looking at this one is because its pretty fast it runs on reg. gas and also has Brembo breaks.
plus it has a $2500 rebate so it comes out pretty cheap.

I drove the Nismo version on the track and street and I liked it alot. Tried to talk my wife into wanting one, but she felt it was to small. I thought it would have been fun to own.

i see a lot of 2.5 motors needing headgaskets before 60K is up and you might do some searching about that cat being so close to the engine in the manifold. seen probs with them coming apart and a sand like material getting sucked back into the engine and eating the oil rings...something to think about.

Well if you do get problems by 60k on your motor, warranty should be able to fix that up and if you're lucky you'll get a new motor!

"This is a powerful engine in a little car, which makes it all the more unfortunate that the Spec V is afflicted with a vicious case of torque steer.Torque steer (for those of you who dozed off during that semester of physics), is the phenomenon that occurs when the twisting power -- or torque -- is delivered to the front wheels unevenly, causing the vehicle to pull in one direction of the other when you step hard on the gas. The torque steer on this little baby is scary. Hold on tight when you step on the accelerator. "
NO thanks, ouch! What a pos... Although that is the 2002 version, doesnt sound very good to me!

Fun car if you just want a sensible FWD DD with some kick. Ofcourse it has torque steer, it's a fairly torquey FWD car. I was impressed by the power considering.

Impressive? How so? That's dangerous and NOT what you want a car to do, not to the extreme that it's "scarey" as that review says anyway lol I know front wheel drive cars are more prone to it obviously, but if it's straight up dangerous then that cant be good no matter how u look at it.

Looks like they can become sporty little 4 doors.
Though I dont know much about them. But it cant be to econoboxy seeing it has Brembo brakes. But a FWD car can be difficult for shade tree mechanic guys. (my 2cents)

A:

Geez, looks like a lego car... Wouldnt want to go over a speed bump in that!

That is not a factory Spec-V. The more power it has the more torque steer they have usually. I say it is not a car to push hard for a normal driver but anyone with experience in some track driving will easily be able to handle the torque steer. It is that one time when you need to book it out of the way to clear an intersection that not driving it fast on a regular basis can put a scare into you.

My brother owns a Spec V and it's a decent car if you're on a budget. Factory 6 speed, Brembos, helical LSD and plenty of torque make for a fun car to drive autocrossing or in the mountains. The torque steer issue isn't too bad, if you've driven a Dodge SRT-4, they're about the same.

I am a tech for a Nissan Dealer and there is a No Sell Order from Nissan on 06 2.5 Sentra's and Altimas. They had a problem with the outside manufacturer of the rings for these engines. They are burning oil and of course if not checked will run out of oil. Nissan is deciding right now if they are going to pick up all the unsold cars with the bad production dates on them, and have the factory install new engines. Or have the dealerships replace the engines.
So for right now I would stay clear of the 2.5

I have a 05 blue ser spec v. Its a very fun car to drive. The LSD takes care of the torque steer in my opinion. It’s a great car to drive and mod if you’re on a budget.

I had a 2003 Red SE-R Spec V. I had hotshot header, thermal R&D cat back, TWM short throw shifter, AEM intake, Underdrive pulley, motor mounts, and apexi air fuel safc2. The car was fun! High 14s 1/4 mile times on stock tires. The car was so much fun! Fastest car at school, and loved the civic si's who thought they could take a sentra. The car was amazing. Well built, didn't feel cheap like a civic, or mazda, or corolla. Pretty good on gas, torque steer was the best part about it! Just point and gas and your on your way quickly! Never had a problem for 20,000 miles I owned it. I wish I coulda kept it while I went to college, but.... well out of state tuition took my Spec away from me. The styling, might I add is really nice, modeled after skyline front. And that yellow one is ricey, there are so many better parts to make it look even nicer, and rims.... volk rims!
