The customer's always right!?

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

Here I am again. The guy that brought you the posts,"You B the judge." and more recently,"Bad gas=bent valves!??" OK the car is still running "fine" I hear, but when number six cylinder's intake valve dropped it's lash pad after running for several hours, the proud unwavering owner said it was because of "traces of bad gas" left even after draining the tank and refilling it with premium. ...I tend to think that after the head went back to the machine shop the second time, where the bent valves had to be hammered out of the head, this one last valve guild was a STILL a little tight. Yes, it does have a stock cam. I don't think there's any chance he's ever gonna be happy with this 280Z. NOT after paying the machine shop twice AND having leftover "oops dropped a lash-pad problem." Many said they wouldn't have taken the head back there, to THAT machine shop. I would have MADE them re-fix it for free. I mean I'm R&Ring the head for free! I have heard, from 2 guys, that Perfect Motor machine shop has a good reputation. (not with ME though!) So , you see, it's still ALL ABOUT the "fine traces" of BAD GAS! Because the customer's always right. NK

It's all done, mine and his. Difference IS mine went IN and never came OUT again. Just went down the highway! ... His had to have an extra dose of "R&R head." Some machine shop problem, "jumping lash pads." After driving around like a fool with my TPS switch UNPLUGGED my Z is running around everywhere with the A/C on and not a single leak to be seen. Thanks again so much for that Champion engine hoist! Norm K

Traces of bad gas - like someone walking around "crop dusting"
The professional crop duster will be so stealth as to have an unsuspecting peer roaming the halls that the blame will fall on, as the duster is making a low-key exit.
It sounds like someone may need to do some dusting at the machine shop, let them know what traces of bad gas really are!

So far those "Fictitous traces" are really "tight clearances" in the valve guild area, as far as I can tell. Although a tiny amount of bad gas could get lodged in a fuel pump or knock out an injector, after 1.5 gas tanks of good gas later, I don't see GAS ALONE causing a valve to stick so bad the lash pad "Jumps OUT" and goes on a vacation.
