A&Q about 350Z
Q:
I just posted in a miata forum, havent had too much friendly help...so im going to post what i posted there, and see if anyone here can help me out!!
Well, few problems, first being, i just did the 60k mile service. New t-belt, water pump, thermostat, acc belts, hoses etc. Well I check the timing prolly 2-3 times, looks good, everything lines up, i hand crank it first to make sure everything sounds alright. Sounds good, so I put it together and go to start it up, just cranks and cranks till the battery dies. Dilema one, old gas....added new with some additive, nothing. Check fire, 1 and 2 are firing, and 3 and 4 are firing but WEAK...narrowed it down to trying new plug wires? Possibly still out of time? Car started and ran fine before the service. Second dilema, last year before I put the car up, i was putting a new shift knob on the car, and had to be a little rough with it, anyways it involved a rag and rubber hammer, and hitting the shift knob, bad idea, I know. Anyways, ever since then, the car will not go in any gears other than 3 and 4 I THINK. Any suggestions? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!

The timing could be off one tooth. I did that in my Maxima and the car would not run. It may have appeared to have lined up, but who knows at this point.
Good luck,

Timing: with the motor(1800cc at least) at TDC there should be 19 teeth on the timing belts top horizontal portion, between the marks on the cam gears, but your really supposed to mark them before one changes the belt.
When checking the timeing , you used a jumper wire between 10 and ground at the diagnosis terminal right?
Do you have a good clean connection at the coil pack, the two vertical grey plugs right behing where the plug wires come from?
Bent shift fork, methinks.
I hate my miata, PITA to work on haven't touched it for a long time. Blown head gasket when i picked it up.
Replaced the head gasket, t-belt, waterpump and such. Got a lower end thunck 200 miles after that. I've had a new used motor underneith my kicthen counter for about six months now. No small wonder why.
I love my Z.
