Dangerous Racing:

A&Q about 350Z

24 Hours of Le Mans
Le Mans, France
This auto endurance race, which dates back to 1923, features hot rods like the Chevy Corvette and the Ford GT 40. It rewards high speeds more than the savvy of negotiating turns--first place goes to the driver in each of a score of categories who completes the most miles over 24 hours. The race has claimed 129 fatalities over the years, according to research group Motorsports Memorial, including a 1955 accident in which Mercedes-Benz driver Pierre Levegh crashed his car into a grandstand, killing himself and 83 spectators.
Baja 1000
Baja, Mexico and Baja California
"The most dangerous race in the world," claim the makers of a new film, Dust to Glory. The Baja 1000 (along with its smaller sibling, the Baja 500), draws riders of dune buggies, motorcycles and other off-road vehicles who want to experience the thrill of blind turns and rugged terrain for 1,000 miles. Some racers have likened the pounding of their bodies to playing ice hockey--for 24 hours straight. Fanatical spectators are known to dig ditches and throw objects onto the course to obstruct racers.
Dakar Rally
Lisbon, Portugal to Dakar, Senegal
Cars, trucks and motorcycles compete in this 700-mile trek, which has taken 45 lives since 1979. Fewer than half the 435 entrants finished the last race. The dangers, which have included random shootings, are why all vehicles are marked with the drivers' blood types.
Isle of Man Tourist Trophy
Isle of Man, U.K.
A series of high-speed motorcycle races on the small, 33-mile-by-13-mile island, the competition is considered very dangerous because it's run on narrow streets with tracks lined by stone walls. Over 180 lives have been lost since the event's inception in 1907. Originally built for bicycles, some say the course has gotten more hazardous as motorcycles have gotten bigger and faster.
Macau GP
Macau, China
A highly dangerous event because it's held on city streets. Barriers line the course, leaving almost no room for error. The race is split between motorcycles in the morning and cars in the afternoon; last year a rider was killed during warmup sessions.
Mille Miglia
Brescia, Italy
This race, which began in the early 1930s, had sports cars racing almost 100 miles through open roads around Italy's "boot" by the late '50s. It's now a toned-down affair of vintage cars, though accidents still happen and danger is always present for the spectators who hover on the streets. One driver died two years ago after crashing his 1932 Alfa Romeo.
World Rally
Various locations; upcoming Aug. 11 event in Rally, Germany
It’s the spectators lining the streets who face the main danger at this auto race, according to Mike Kerchner, editor of National Speed Sports News. Safety measures have improved for the drivers, who lose points by getting to a check point too late or too early. But risks include meandering from local streets to mountain bends.

back before the necks got hold of Speedvision, they would show the TT Ilse of Man race. one of the racers hit a mailbox at 200 mph! it is definitely the most intense race going today.
If all were equal, none would be strong.

I got the 2005 Isle of Man TT race on DVD. The superbike races are intense. Sometimes its they guy with the most guts wins because some wont dare to try and take certain corners really fast. Fun to watch guys go "eeek!" and slow for certain turns so they dont end up in some lady's living room because her house sits on the corner.

I seen a doco once on them people who mess with the rally tracks, digging massive pits that cars fall into because they dont like the noise of the buggies tearing ass up in their town haha

They still do. I've got the 2005, and 2004 races on TiVo. Speed will probably show the TT later this year. Until then you have lots of MotoGP, FIM World Superbike, and AMA Formula Xtreme.
