A&Q about 350Z
Q:
Found an interesting article on the costs of living in some major international cities, compares costs of stuff like a pizza, housing and the cost of petrol. The currency used is Australian dollars I believe.

You guys think the cost of petrol in America is expensive?!?! ;)
A:
Bad comparison, Sydney is the most expensive state in Australia and the reason fuel is expensive here is because, ummm we have no fuel resources here so it's kind of obvious why! Oil tankers across the Pacific, hmm cheap? lol
Cost of living besides fuel in Australia is among the cheapest in the world, not to mention we're one of the only countries left in the world where u can get a nice rare steak without having to goto hospital for mad cow disease shots afterwards lol

That's funny.
If you compare any city to Paris, Singapore, or Tokyo, it will be cheaper. I can guarantee that most U.S. cities have cheaper average houses than $400,000 USD and fuel is cheaper than $3.60 a gallon.
Are they trying to attract people with that skewed propaganda or trying to tell local people that it's worse elsewhere?
A:
The same goes here, you can buy half decent, 2brm houses for as little as $100,000 AU. It wont be a palace or anything but like I said above it's a bad comparison because Sydney is really expensive. I think they just used it as a comparison because it IS the most costly, and considering it matches up pretty well to the other cities means that all of the other states here are cheap as p!ss...

When I have people visiting in from Sinapore and Tokyo to my house, they think I'm a millionair.

Gas expensive in Auzzy because of tankers and imports? Sorry dude, but it's becuase of your VERY high fuel taxes. We in the U.S. import 65% of our oil and it's still less than half what you pay per liter or gallon. Our domestic supplies have no way to reduce imported fuel costs (though our lack of refining capability means shortages are more frequent).
Your paying high fuel taxes for understandable reason, though--fewer drivers with LOTS of road miles to maintain. Costs of roads therefore spread among fewer taxpayers.
Fair dinkum, mate.

Not to mention that almost everyone and their dog drive an out-of-tune smoking old Holden or whatever (some exceptions). Gas guzzling sure has its benefits (as well as areosol cans)... Beautiful Sunshine!!

Alex280,
Taxes have some to do with it but not the primary reason. For example fuel is more expensive in my state because I live in an island off the mainland, hence transport costs to get fuel here is more. Significantly aswell, some 20c more than other states per litre.

Fuel taxes here aren't too bad at all, maybe research before dribbling.

no man, fuel taxes here are horrendous compared to other places. and that is also the main reason for the differences between the states, petrol in queensland is amost always 10c cheaper than here in victoria.
the government take the largest share of what we pay for petrol, and they're still trying to screw the east timorese for their off-shore oil fields...
A:
Well if u bothered to look at the link above, you'd see that it's not bad at all here compared to other countries and the fact that everything else like food etc is far cheaper than just about anywhere else makes up for the fact we pay a bit more for fuel...
"Official statistics from the International Energy Agency show that Australia in fact has among the lowest petrol price of all Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) countries."
And if you look at the graph, in the U.S it appears that the base price for fuel itself is higher making the taxes not look so much. I lived in the USA for over a year, I know how much some things cost there compared to here and some of the price differences are disgusting.
I, unlike some people, actually find evidence to support what I'm saying instead of just dribbling out my butt...
