Good Cheap Car shipping company

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

Im going to buy a car that is in WI, im in SC, which is 1000 miles away from me. I found one company for 590 to ship it, but im looking for lower seeing as how for 600 bucks I could drive up there and drive it back for 600, and good shipping companys you know of that are generally cheap. I dont care if it takes about a month or two for the car to get here if its cheap, but I dont want 10months like what happened to my cousin when he used a cheap company

A:

if you can get it yourself, do it.

Eh, not sure if I would be able to, been busy lately. Id rather have it shiped, but thats still an option just been busy.

A:

Comrade!
Rule of thumbs is to expect about $1usd for each mile of distances with reputable ICC registered company that offers insurance coverages you can actually collect on if damages arise's.
Taht is in USA, of course here in Siberia we use reindeers, much cheaper...but sometimes lots of 'mud'...LOL!

This is one thing you do not want to go cheap on. A difference of 100-200 bucks is nothing if your car ends up in the wrong place 2 weeks late.

Rule about body shops and car transporters: If it's good, it won't be cheap.
Can't you just give a trustworthy friend a plane ticket your gas card and some food money and let him/her do the delivery?
Also, didn't I read something in the paper where back east you could put a car on a special railroad car and transport it to another area? Sorry can't help much beyond that.

A good carrier(no cheap, no expensive) Will not request money up front, that is my guide to transport, 600 is not to bad for 1000 miles, don't drive unless you plan to get there with the money to pay in full so you can see the deal in person n bail out if was a misleading ad. if you already pay for the car do transport, don't drive, if breaks you'll cry so loud life will never be the same..

Just find the time and drive it home yourself. It'll only take two days. Another alternative is auto drive away services. They'll find some one to drive the car from there to your house. There's a fee of course but I don't know how they structure their rates.

Comrade-_Charlie,
If you can't find the time to do it, then time is money. Pay someone to do it.
If you do it yourself, bring some tools (metric) just in case, as well as some quick tunup items such as spark plugs and maybe a new airfilter. Personally, I would also change the oil before I drove it that far, unless the owner can show you proof he changed it recently.
Just some ideas.
Where in SC are you? Possum 25? I'm near Charlotte.
Good luck. If you drive it yourself, please post your roadtrip experience here so we can live vicariously through you!

i'm trying to get a car shipped right now. they picked it up on may 26th and have been driving around with it ever since. they've told me several times, "oh, it'll be there in a couple days". they gave me the driver's phone number about a week ago, but he's yet to answer his phone or return my call. the trucking company picks up the phone sometimes, but they're the ones telling me it'll be a couple days. either that or they say they'll call the driver and call me back. they don't call back and then the next time i call they have no new info.
trust me.. pick it up or do something so you don't have to have it shipped.
i'd love to just report it stolen if i thought it'd do any good.

Check with collector clubs in your area.
Try Hemmings.com - of course these are ads from many companies but they should give you a price range.
In the long run, the cheaper you try to go, isn't.
If you don't trust the car to make that kind of trip - don't.
Gas, road repairs, food, lodging maybe towing - it is a lot to think about.

That would be funny to report it stolen then the cops or something would get it too your house fast.

I got a car from NY NY to AR for $550, in just a few days. But now that I am looking to possibly get another car shipped I cant find that place again. But I wouldnt pay over $750 if I was shipping a car from Miami to LA.
