I finally decided to do the Z31 MAF swap. I don't know why just about everybody does Megasquirt when the Z31 MAF swap is so cheap and easy. If you go with the 88-89 ECU you can even tune it with a Romulator and a laptop. I however, just plan to use the 84-85 turbo setup for my car.
The Z31 guys in the West Michigan Z car club are helping me put together a MAF setup for my 1981 L28et. The EFI has never worked quite right, and I'm tired of dealing with this unreliable system. I would perhaps try to fix it, but with a new turbo on board, air/fuel managment is critical.

I would recommend the 88-89 ECU as it has some features like checksum of the engine operation parameters that the ECU keeps for those short stops and starts.
There are a number of people that have done this change, and up until now there really has not been a good way to program the system for your specific engine. That has now changed with fully programmable realtime software program. I have just completed all the installs. The system works very well.
So if you are going to do this install, I highly recommend this to go along with the ECU. You can buy the required hardware, and software for the application.
