Hi folks,
Working on the wife's 98 Dodge Dakota Sport and changing out the shocks. My metric sockets don't quite fit and neither do my sae sockets. What's the deal here? Is there a third standard for nuts and bolts?

probably some sort of dealer specialty tool.it sucks when auto manufactors invent parts that tools only available to their dealers will fit. call the local dodge garage and ask if this is the case.

I have run into that before as well,...... the parts were probably made in China where close enough, is good enough...... I despise China made junk.

yes there is a third standard, used mostly on older british cars called whitworth thread. they had the sizes you always see in craftsman socket sets like 29/64ths and like that. doubtful they are whitworth though. maybe just a nonstandard size like 16mm or 18mm. people think bolt heads are only 14,15,17 or 19mm, but some of the specialty fasteners for seat belts are standardized at 16mm. everything you try doesnt fit, then you realize the wrenches you left in the box thinking nobody ever uses those sizes they ripped me off selling them in this set...and viola you find someone does use them! LOL!

chrysler liked to use alot of 15mm nuts and bolts in there with some SAE.
