A&Q about 350Z
Q:
So I get my Z fixed on Monday and I'm all grins. I am out cruising today and I stop at a turn and take off easy and then floor it ............. BAM BAM BAM......I'm like NO DANG WAY!!
Anyway it's banging almost exactly like when the rear end failed so I'm thinking here we go again. Well I go about 100 more feet and then all of sudden I have no power going to the wheels and I hardly have any brake pressure so I'm like great Halfshaft failure.
Sure enough I pull over and one of my Spicer U-Joints has totally sheared off and broke my rear brake line as well.
I just checked these U-joints on Monday and there was no play at all on either halfshaft but I guess it was obviously cracked internally.
Anyway I ALWAYS have carried a halfshaft in the car since breaking one back in 1996 at the track so at least I was able to fix it on the side of the road.
I'm hoping one of the brake lines off the 280ZX parts car will be near the right length so I won't have to out in the junk yard. I might even have one under the house or out in my garage floating around somewhere.
Anyway, this has definitely been a month full of parts breakage!!
Later,Norm

Yea I would definitly say some sort of stress problem is going on norm. Sad to hear about so many troubles.

..you made it home with the broken brake line too? Geez, kinda lucky, Id say...if it were I, I'd have just about everything but the part that broke. I used to save old hoses, belts, etc and throw them in a wood box in the trunk...you know, parts that looked like they needed replacing, but would work in a bind still...broke a gas line near Little Rock one year passing tractor trailors, them passing me, and back and forth til I got irritated and wanted them IN the past....then the gas needle plummeted and I had to pull off...lucky I did as gas was bubbling off the top of the manifold and I
had to dig one of those extra hoses out to fix....I guess carrying extra parts might be an inherited thing...my grandpa carried an extra battery in a wood box. Alot of weight, but gas was cheaper then...(plus this is Mn.)
Do you empty those parts out during your 1/4 runs?? j/k
(Someone sneak over to Norm's and stick a wood block under his gas pedal.)

I've checked everything out and everything is in the same location as it always has been. It looks like it's just all very bad timing!
Oh as far as the brake line goes and crimped it down to stop it from leaking.
The car stops fine on just the front rotors. The old Z's weren't diagonal braking. They were front and rear.

Hey wannaBreZ, the solid mount is too noisy for the street in my opinion and I haven't broken a halfshaft in ten years until today.
Anyway if this crap keeps up I'll be probably be doing those mods someday.
BTW how did you get the 4 bolt mount setup onto the CV shafts since the stockers have 6 bolts?

get some cv shafts! I cant believe all the thrashing and constant 5K launches at the track and on the street on our R200 with halfshafts never broke anything.
You definatly got some serious mishap problems there with your setup for some reason.
A:
5k? Yea right, norm idles at 5K. He drops that sucker at 7plus, I bet!!!

No actually with street tires I drop it right about 3500. When I'm doing burnouts I do turn near 7000 rpm in 2nd gear for a cool smoke show. I've done it for years with no problems ,but after all this crap I think I'll stick to 1st gear burnouts now.
BTW, I think the U-Joint failed as a result of me driving the car on the street for two weeks with the rear end locked up. I guess when making turns it just really stressed the U-joint and it just decided to go ahead and fail today.

I have hydrulic hose around the bolts so I dont get the LOUD whine.. although in 5th I can start to hear it. As for the diff and CV's, those are not in yet :/ I am still contemplating how things are going to work and what my options are, there is no way I am spending $400 for the conversion adaptors.
