Joyce Brothers on Biker Jackets

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

I've been out sick for a week and the home computer crashed - so I'm back at work and on long secuirty posts I'm catching up on past site threads here.
About biker helmets and leather jackets - an old memory:
Something like 30 years ago I read a Joyce Brothers (Pop Psychology Icon - child prodigy won a game show like Jeapordy and became a Psycologist - many books and newspaper columns) column -
Some girl wrote in complaining about her boyfriend's motocycle jacket - she liked him and the bike but thought the leather jacket was too "gang look" - this is late 60's or so - before the "Fonz" so Hell's Angles and such were very outlaw -
Anyway Brothers writes back this long term paper on how leather is pliable and soft and is (long psycobable ) related to her boyfriends subconcious nature.
Finnally Brothers says if he loves her he would wear a "nice" nylon jacket or some such "acceptable" attire.
So four or five years later - maybe not that much - I read in Playboy Advisor (do I need to explain that?) the very same question from some girl who didn't like her boyfriend's leather biker jacket. The bike was fun and OK.
The difference in answers was very telling about "proper" mainstream thinking and good experienced advise - to wit:
Playboy answered that leather was the only material (then known) that would hold up to a major spill scrape on the concrete - "it's the only thing between your boyfriend's precious skin and the street. If you care anything for him and his body you'll buy him gloves boots pants and helmet, anything to keep him alive and intact on the "fun bike".
The difference in advise has been with me for 30 + years.

WilsonZ - just like radio or TV - you don't like the program - change the channel.
"Useless" is in the mind of the beholder - if you have one.
