I belive its the same motor or close to, a 1600 roadster.
Lots of Z cars, 1970's-1983's.
1977, Megasquirt, 12.8@ 105, 1.70 60 Foot, 2940 LBS. Blake Machine Co, Phx, AZ http://bandmzcars.com http://blakemachineprojects.com http://www.zselect.com
A:
I'm no expert, but that doesnt look like an L-series. Just for starters the fuel pump, distributer and oil filter are in the wrong places, and the valve cover is way different.
That looks like a pushrod engine.

Could it be a H series engine?
A:
Definitely old - definitely OHV - and if it was in a marine application, it looks like somebody altered it to make it work(or fit, as the case may be).......
Any other info?

is a "hobby farmer" and he looks for inline Jap fours like that to put in his bobcats and tow motors. I sold him a spare Maxda engine last year for $100.
He is very hard on the engines to say the least, so he buys old cheap ones and runs em till they blow.
From what I understand, he only has to machine a fitting to adapt the engine to the hydraulic system and drop it in.
I have seen a few laying around his shop that look like the one you have pictured. I will see if he knows anything about em.

The A-Series is the engine you want to look up, that's what it is.
Available from 998CC's (A10) all the way up to current production A20 used in Forklifts.
A10, 12, 14, 15, 20 are the ones I KNOW exist. It makes for a very interesting engine combination possibility if you want to go land speed racing---it's probably the only chassis (Sunny/B210) that you can compete in three different engine classes, and use OEM blocks unaltered. The A-10 would give the VW domination lock on the smaller class a good run for it's money.

Looks exactly like a Datsun PU engine from mid 60's. 1200cc version I beleive came in those.
Came with a whopping 60HP and they were darn proud of it for sure with the 60HP badges on the sides.
look close and you can see the 60 hp badge.

Close but not quite exactly the same.
