I myself am not a huge fan of the wheel design, but the gunmatal looks great w/ the orange. One of the few colors it goes really well with, IMO.

They look better in gunmetal but I still think you should have gotten some Watanbe's, Panasports, or Konig Rewinds in that order of your budget.
Here's my buddy's car with some Konig Rewinds, don't look half bad don't you think?

I was going for a unique look, and panasports have been around for a long time. The other factor is weight, and the momo's weigh 17 LBs. Trying for 13's in the 1/4 mile and every pound counts.

I personally think modern wheels look odd on a classic (older) car...but hey you asked for opinions right :)
Like I said in your other post, nice car! Just not a fan of the wheels :( but oh well...still a very nice ride!
Edit: oh and by the way my Watanabe's weigh a lot less than 17lbs...so if that was what you were after, you could have done a lot better in the weight department. :)

If he was going for unique then using the Watanabe's obviously wouldn't of been a good idea. They're easily the most common wheel seen on earlier Z's, although good, it sort of takes away from the goodness when every second person has them dont you think?

I have to go with MAG on this one. Wats and their knock off brethren(Konig, Panasport) have a classic look for a classic car. Not just the Wats though. I think the older style wheels look better. Blacked out Long Champ XR-4s will be going on my Z when it's finished.
Beautiful car. Hopefully mine will look that good when I'm done.
The gunmetal does look much better than the silver.

I'm pretty sure he's not he just picked it up months ago and got a SWEET deal on it...turbo engine, clean body, wheels, brakes, interior are all nice. I would have bought it too for what he paid for it...damn lucky I tell you.
300zxt: I don't care what you do to your wheels in any car, it still looks 99% like any other car, so how 'original' is that? If you like to mix your era's with a classic car then to take away from it by slapping on larger modern wheels then go for it, but I personally wouldn't want to ruin the lines of a classic car with wheels that look best on a newer car. To each his own though, as long as you think it looks good/better/unique then go for it! :)
EDIT:
Let me give you an example of where I'm coming from...and again this is just my opinion so I don't expect you to see it my way but the OP wanted opinions.
Here is what my 510 looked like when I first showed up to the previous owner's place. 16" Momo Twins on all 4 corners.
Then I got my Watanabe in from Japan, so you mean to tell me my 510 is less original and unique because of my wheel choice? Or that it looks better with the horribly out of place Momo Twins that it came with? Not to mention that those Momo's weighed a TON more than my lightweight 2 piece Watanabes?

Mag, I value your opinion as everyone else's opinion here. These wheels wouldn't have been my #1 choice for changing the look of my Z, but I didn't want to go HEAVIER than my old wheels and there just aren't a lot of options. Enkei has a 15.2 Lb wheel that was a special order and not sure if I liked it. How much do Watanabe's weigh - couldn't be WAY lighter than 17 Lbs. And I don't like the swirl style of the momos on the 510, but do think the look was better w/silver than the watanabes - just my opinion.
RR

A:
Well if you don't consider 11lbs way lighter than 17lbs then I guess you don't but I sure do. Hell even the knockoff Konigs come weighing in at 13lbs. I do know that the Momo's I took off were some of the heaviest wheels I've had to lug off my cars, that alone turns me off Momo's but obviously cost here wasn't a factor for you since they cost $197 each (according to Momo's website) so I respect your decision as you did it on your personal tastes and not because you were on a budget (the fact that your Z is so clean shows that too! Thumps up)
Wow...you're the first to even suggest that those Momo monsters looks (silver) are better than the Watanabe's. Plus I like keeping my Japanese car Japanese with wheels from Japan not Italy! :P Enjoy your ride amigo!

Wow is right. I had no idea you could get 11 lb wheels. Should have done my homework better. Just going off of what my local Les Schwab had available. A lot of the wheels i liked (styling wise) were 25-30 lbs. And to be honest with you, I've never ever considered WHERE my wheels came from. Didn't even cross my mind to get japanese wheels. Still have my japanese motor! I've just been trying to make my Z clean, and nice looking, not too worried about original, that went out the window long ago. I think we all have a picture in our head of were we want our car to end up, and everybody's picture is different - that's why it's so fun. Really Mag, thanks for being honest!

I like the polished wheels in pic. No 2 the best. The modern wheels go well with the modern paint color. The polished wheels compliment the chrome bumpers and mirrors etc.. I would have stayed with those wheels. They are wheels are a great look on your Z. Will the place you bought them from let you switch them back? if so I would do it. They were your 1st choice, go with your initial instinct.
Remember you have to like them not anyone else.
Geez and not one of these guyz noticed the girl on the deck in pic. 2 with a shirt on that matches the car. wow....

300zx wheels are gross. That is the number one thing that kills the looks of the car stock. Put a nice set of wheels on a Z31 and the car actually lloks pretty damn good.

Hey mag, the car your buddy bought was mine for about 5 years, i sold it to a guy named ron soto about 5-6 years ago. I did most of the work to that car. I almost bought it back from the guy who sold it to your buddy, but had to pass on it. Its a sweet solid car!

Hey BigJim, yeah that guy said that you were talking to him buying it back. Man when I went to that guys house to drop off my buddy who was buying it I didn't think the car looked all that great (the paint looked faded and hard water spots galore) but the interior and engine was solid for sure. Then after doing a compression test and driving it a bit they went in to sign the paperwork and I left. The next time I saw it a week later when he drove it into work it looked WAY better. He washed/rubbing compound/wax/polished it and it looked like a new paint job!
He's since cleaned up the interior wiring, tuned it and he's enjoying it every other day. If I could have picked it up for what he paid I would have bought it too to have a 1970 Datsun 510 the way I want, and a sweet 240Z to go along with my 350Z :P

I like the really old school pic #3. Black centers with silver lip. I'm going to re-powder coat the black centers on a set of Am Racing Wheels I got on my junker.
Sweet color and Sweet car. It looks good with any of the three and you should be proud and happy.

Thanks Alex. I'm gonna hang on to the old wheels just in case. The 17's required spacers and the handling is so different, I don't know if I like it. Probably will run the enkeis at the track just so there's no spacers.
