Best gas to buy??

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

With gas prices the way they are I've been considering getting a Costco card just to use for the lower gas prices. Currently my Z's have been getting Chevron or Shell as they are the closest to my house but Costco is too. The Costco gas is roughly 10 cents cheaper a gallon. The question is how is the gas. Just wondering if anyone here has opinions on the Costco gas. If it's not as good I don't want to feed it to my Z's. Thanks

10 cents a gallon, 10 gallons per fill up, one fill up per week:
You just saved $52 per year. If you really drive a lot and double that amount, you saved $104 in a year. Triple it to $156. In a year.
Per fill up, you save $1.

Go for the cheapest! It all has to meet minimum specs anyway, and the majors just ad their "secret" additives. Ive been using mom and pop gas stations only and none of my cars seem to suffer any worse gas mileage or engine misfortunes because of it.
There is a Chevron station on one corner here at 3.44 unlreg, and an Arco on the other corner at 3.19 unlreg. I laugh at the idiots filling up at Chevron.

The additives may be worth it to you. I suggest you do your own research. Going cheap on gas reminds me of going cheap on oil. What are you really saving but what are you really risking?

bro-in-law is a Marathon Oil man, they deliever to Marathon stations as well as the mom/pop stores.....as a matter of fact alot of the gas dealing
is such that when a station is low and can't get the usual tanks filled timely, they contract with other refineries to fill them.....its all the same pool...as the additives go, I don't know, but for some reason, I can remember Shell and Gulf (Shell in particular) giving me the best gas mileage.....too incidental for me now in trucks, filling so often I quit caring...
As long as I have no missing going on and no lack of power, the 1-3 mpg
diff. isn't worth me watching for...

It all comes from the Koch refinery, and goes to all of the gas stations. Just different labels. Where in the Twin cities are you? I live in Tonka Bay, Mn. are you part of the Zoom croud?

Gas is gas, and dino oil is dino oil no matter what the label or brand (synthetic is a much larger waste of money). If it makes you feel better, keep wasting the dime a gallon, but don't be fooled into thinking the gas (or oil) addatives are doing much for you.

"Gas is gas"
Well, not around these parts. The gas in the city is cut with 10% methanol and gets crappy mileage. Gas purchased outside the city is is not required to have "oxegenated additives" and is cheaper and gets 5-10% better mileage (measured).
The best gas to buy is gas (without Methanol).

My Z likes Chevron. For some reason, the Z starts up better and accelerates better on Chevron gas than Shell gas. On the other hand, my previous Integra likes Shell for the same reason.
Perhaps my mind is playing games on me....LOL.
Also, I've read from other car forums that some people, while going to work very early, saw a Shell Tanker truck dumping their load at a local Costco.
So could be it that Costco gas is actually Shell gas?????? Hmmm....

At a local Citco that is always one of the lowest priced. I see tankers in there all the time with “Consumers Petroleum” on the side. Might just be the name of the transport company?

Won't be zooming til I get it to zoom...I get out to Minnetonka a couple times a summer but usually hoping water is calmer when I do go. Lots of
nice cars around the lake there for sure...(Actually want one of those

progress is slow being single with a kid at home. (Posted some pics Jan30th+/- if you back search...)

Like I said, gas is gas. It all has to meet min specs and the refineries themselves just ad their additives so yes, Citgo can be selling actual Chevron or Shell gas without their additives. Happens all the time.

my z's like sunoco for some reason, just the high octane (110) is worth the extra money, especially when your going fast all the time. (theres one about 1/2 mile away)

Same Octane - cheapest wins.
I believe all the additives over minimum government standards are crap.
Of course you can get bad gas - as in, having water in it or being very old - but you will not run into that in any city at any busy station.
Cheapest wins.

Gas all comes from the same place the only thing that changes is the additives.
Oil on the other hand is different, there is much more to play with.

Holy crap! How do you get 110 octane gas. Wish we had that here in Iowa, all I can find is 91 octane. But mine's cheaper ($2.69), so I guess it's a fair trade.

CKelly78Z, feel free to provide some facts. I read a post on the honda s2000 forums by an oil [I think that was his title] engineer for exxon. It was extremely detailed going through which additives do what. You think those companies throw additives in there just for fun?
The fact you think all dino and synthetic oils are alike already puts a whole so big in your credibility of the topic I almost didn't respond.

I was talking with a friend of mine who works for a family run business that delivers gas and runs some gas stations, and he was saying that after Hurricane Katrina went through the Gulf states and shut down the refineries in those areas, President Bush signed a Presidential Order putting the entire country on one gas formula. Before that, there were something like 42 different "blends" depending on your geographical area. Now, gas is gas - it's all the same throughout the country. The only difference is the additives that different companies put into their gas when they deliver it to the gas stations. Some companies really market their additives - Techron or V-Power - some don't. If you feel like paying more, pay more.
I've found that one of my cars (1969 Plymouth Barracuda) likes the additives that Shell puts in their gas - I do get better gas mileage. On my newer cars (1986 300ZX and an 1998 Dodge Ram van), I haven't found that it makes a diiference what gas I put in them. The mileage does vary depending on what grade of gas I use - the more octane rating the more mileage I get. Just my personal experience.
Hope this helps you.

Sounds like at least a whole Mythbusters program to me.
Someone or several contact them and get 'em to test gas myths.
