A&Q about 350Z
Q:
Ive been a fan of CS ever since playing on a friends comp about 2 years ago.
I bought halflife 2, and installed it just to play CS ( i still havent even played halflife yet!)
My Pc Really struggled with it, windows xp, 1.2ghz, 320ram. Tiny 20gb h/d. and it is allways very laggy. Even though a friends PC is about the same spec and never really lags. Its been put to one side ever since.
Ive recently bought a new pc... Not brilliant, but definately an upgrade.
2.9ghz celeron processor,
186 ram,
160 gb h/d.
I loaded CS on last night expecting it to work fine, and really looking foward to lag free play. I cant believe it... Honestly its probably just about as bad. I cant work it out. I know i could do with some more ram, but I was sure this new pc's spec would be capable of running it.
Any ideas anyone? Does anyone play any online/multiplayer games? What sort of specs are you running?
Thanks in advance.
Tony.

Whats the graphics on the new PC?
That has a big bearing on lag free play.
Ive got a huge top spec PC (well it was 6 months agao ) and get the odd bit of lag...
But thats with every graphic setting at max
CS:S is great for a bit of fun. What you really want is battlefield 2
Although i dont think you will be able to run it with that
And yes. More ram needed! Im running 3G atm

Anyone play any Online games? Anyone able to give me any help with this problem?
A:
Sorry you posted the same time as me!
Thanks for getting back to us...
Im not sure what the graphics card is, but i know its 64mb one. I loaded up steam, and it came up saying i needed to update my driver for it, as it was below their recomendations.
Id love to play it even in with normal graphics. It couldnt handle it even in the lowest resolution poss.
Any idea what graphics card i'd need then, and I know about ram. Im running pc3200, and im allready looking for 2gb. It has the space to hold up to 4gb i think. I just cant believe it only comes with as little as 184mb, when the rest seems a half decent setup.
Where do you use to get cheap computer bits? Ive noticed on ebay that prices are quite deer.
Battle field2 is that a steam game? could you give me some details on it please?
Cheers for your help mate,
tony.

Thats mostly your problem then. 64mb is not enough really to run a game like that.
You need a card for it, They can be quite cheap to really expensive.
ATI 9800 pro is not a bad card. Its 128mb and i used to run CS:S on it fine but it could have been better.. Im now running a 256 7800GTX that cost me nearly £350!
I woud wait to hear other peoples views though as everyone will be different...
Battlefield 2 is made by EA. Not a steam game...
Have a look on the EA site. I would give you a link but im at work atm sorry...
Its more of a battlefield simulator and has heli's and plane's etc in. But you need a big graphics card and everything else as its a very demanding game!
A:
Cheers for the info
Dont worry about the link, ill have a look after i get CS running sweet.
So basically, to handle most of my gaming needs i should be looking at a 256mb graphics card, and at least 2gb of ram??
Does this sound about right?
Like you say, ill wait and see what other people have to say about this.
I didnt think id get a reply tbh. I know online gaming is massive, but didnt think any of you would be into it.
Lets see who else is a 'gamer'
Cheers,
A:
What do you think of this graphics card??
A:
Bugger!Forget that^^^
I should really read stuff and not just look at prices...
*FAULTY*

if you're skint then...
upgrade your ram to at least 512mb
buy a decent video card with at least 128mb ram (ideally 256mb though, or 512mb if you're feeling flush) i can recommend 9800pro, it's dated now but a good card and will reliably run css on modest settings.
shouldn't cost too much, look on ebay for gfx cards.
A:
btw about the ram... you don't need anymore than 2gb ram at the absolute max atm. any more than that is simply overkill and a waste of money...for now. i would go for 1gb or at least 512mb if you're skint. 2gb is overkill unless you're going to get a phat video card to compliment it.
A:
Yeah, how did you guess im skint?
Thanks for the info. Ill look into buying some upgrades.
Which is worth buying first though? I take it id need the higher ram to even see the benifits of the better graphics card then?
Back to the thread title...
anyone play CS?
A:
Are you running XP?
I didnt even think a PC would boot with 186mb!
Could run round the block before that boots up!
A:
just get a 512mb stick of ram, and a second hand 9800pro 256mb off ebay. probably about £70 all in and you'd be sorted.
A:
and if you really must get them one at a time then i would get the gfx card first.
A:
I used to play CS with a geforce TI4200 with an xp2000 processor 512mb ram & it ran ok.
A:
Yeah im running xp, and its pretty quick at booting. Well, its quicker than my old one by far...And Its actually 192mb of ram.
Could i add a 512 stick to what ive got?
Thanks for your replies all
A:
Your RAM and graphics card are well off the minimum spec for the game. I would imagine you've got 256mb of RAM installed with an integrated graphics chip sharing it, leaving you with the 190odd, which is fine for very basic desktop use, but for gaming you'll deffo need to upgrade as suggested.
Best not to mix and match RAM chips, so ditch the one in your board and buy one or two 512mb sticks and install one of the cheaper 128mb cards, prob AGP on your setup.
A:
Thanks. Ill see what i can sort out. Funkbaron you recommend more ram over a better graphics card then? I know you didnt say that but is that it basically?
