A&Q about 350Z
Q:
Fairly simple question I hope.
My PC is getting on a bit now and the motherboard only supports USB 1.1. Considering I've just invested in a new 320Gb internal slave drive and 320Gb external drive to back it up, I could do with faster transfer rates than USB 1.1 will allow - at the moment it looks like a full HD would take 80hrs to backup
I'm considering upgrading to a lovely 20" Widescreen monitor, which happens to have several USB 2.0 ports on it.
My question is, will the monitor magically allow me to used USB 2.0 when using it's ports, or will it be restricted by the capability of the motherboard?
I know I can get a USB 2.0 PCI card, but my PCI slots are already pretty full and I could do without the extra expense..
Thanky for any help
A:
No. You can't magically plug a USB2.0 device into a USB1.1 port and get 2.0 speed out of it.
USB2.0 PCI card is the best way to go.
I got my USB2.0 card for less than £10 on the bay, and that might have been with postage too.

Thanks for the reply - so the ports on the screen will only be acting as a hub then I assume..
Card it is then

If it's any consolation I had to rip out my Audiogy card to fit mine. I'm back to 128 styleee sound.

Gash.. that's hardship
There are some dirt cheap cards on - didn't realise that they could be hooked up to the existing front ports
