Anyone know how where and who?... local preferably so I can pop in wait and pop out or is it easier to buy the chip and install myself if I got the diagram.... etc etc...

i've got a messiah in mine and a few folk i know have as well, cracking little chip to use.
got it fitted by the electrician at my old place for £40.
does everything, all region games and DVD's, CD copies etc

You can get around it without a chip.
You have to change the case & the new one comes with an extra flip top lid & a boot disc.
You then put in the boot disc & while it is in there it stops the drive spinning enabling you to open the flip top lid & insert the copy (also getting around the PS2 reseting itself when you open the front tray), then close the flip lid & load it up.
