A&Q about 350Z
Q:
I could shell out £25 for Norton Anti-Virus 2006.
However I'd like some "alternative" anti-viruses.
Currently running AVG, not really impressed.
Are there any "better" ones to be had?
If somebody could "recommend" one I'd happily send a CD and self addressed envelope to "trry" it.

I personally think you should start looking at Apple Macs. Not a virus in
sight - I don't need ANY additional software over my OS, no spyware, trojan
horses or malware.

You can shove a Mac as far as you like up your own bottom. IMHO.

Just because there arent many yet doesn't mean you're safe.

I use a pc with XP, don't run any anti virus and have never had any problems in 4 years or so of internet. You just have to know what you're doing.
A:
Still using Norton 2003 with updates to 2041
Never had a problem with that ,but I did have with later Norton versions,ie.slowing up system on any other computer I installed it on.
A:

Hehe, I just love PC vs Mac debates. They always manage to turn the
friendliest forum into a bloody arena of ignorance and opinionation -
and that's just the PC owners
Firas save your Mac evangelism
for another forum. We Dub people are an opinionated bunch and are
already on our chosen paths of computing. If we weren't so opinionated
we wouldn't care so much about the cars we drive and would probably be
riding around in Mondeos or RAV4s or whatever.
And let's face it, who actually needs a computer that looks good, has a
rock-solid UNIX-based OS or an intuitive, well-designed user interface?
Nobody!

Going with Norton again I think, seem to have found a bargain Corp Edition.
A:
Tried Norton on my other computer and it nearly killed it.
Any good alternatives around at the moment.?
I don`t like AVG so anything else.
A:
Nod 32 is good from all accounts
Norton is more like a virus itself
A:
I read a review recently and it said AVG is the best for not slowing your pc down, it uses the least resources while doing just as good a job as the leading brands. Ive just downloaded the new 7.5 internet security suite, and it found over 30 spyware which Norton and Microsoft Antyspyware missed!! One of which was a backdoor trojan.
What dont you like about AVG? it certainly does the job as i have found out.

Very true !!
Can be hard to get rid of when youve finished with it !
A:
i can't speak highly enough of avg but if you don't like it try avast.
just installed this on my vista os and it is quite good.

I use AVG free and Zone Alarm, don't have many problems at all.
I've just reformatted my mum's PC - partially to get rid of the £30 Norton update she'd just bought as it was so slow it was offensive.
The machine's a reasonable spec - 2.4Ghz Celeron with 256mb RAM.. the only thing of significance that's installed on it it office and she only ever uses it for checking emails and using Word. I sh*t you not - after booting up and leaving it for 30 sec. to stabilise, it still took a further 20 seconds to open a blank word document
I don't see anything wrong with the free programs as long as you're reasonably careful with your browsing and emails (As you should be anyway).
At the end of the day if you run two or more hard drives you can always just format the drive containing the operating system (and virus) and do a fresh install without fear of losing any data
