A&Q about 350Z
Q:
Hello all,
My monitor has started to go a shade of purple, well its been doing it for over a week and I've had enough! It is over 10 years old now, so i can't really complain.
I would like to get an LCD monitor, I am looking for at minimum screen size of 17".
What would be the best value one I could go for? I don't want to spend too much especially with Christmas only around the corner.
Tips on where to buy will also be appreciated.
Thanks.

Samsung SM940 - 19",tv tuner, its excellent. Only 250 from argos at the moment. Widescreen as well!
A:
I've got the 17" version of this and it is a great allrounder. That 19" one in Argos is a bargain!
A:
ebuyer do them for under 100 quid, i have a belinea 17" and it's great for the money.......
A:
Thank you guys, I am on quite a limited budget at the moment.. Too many car bits which need purchasing so will want a real budget one. The Belinea is the price range i am looking for, how well does it perform?
A:
19 inch Samsung Widescreen with 4ms response time...SM940BW
£164 (that's including the VAT )
I've just bought one of these from there and it's awesome, and look at the price
A:
btw is that the same one that's in argos??? if so then LOL tbh...
A:
Argos one has TV Tuner, HD ready etc. so not the same.
A:
Thanks for the effort guys.
I am typing away looking at a green screen now, got to get a monitor ASAP. My eyes hurt!
What does the TV thing mean, does it mean you can just plug it in and watch TV without any other hardware? And what is HD ready.
Since I am on a budget b'locks's link looks very good. Thanks mate.
A:
You might be able to pick up a bargain on Ebay like i did. I bought a brand new Dell 19" last year from one of the Ebay shops. Got it for £100 less than they go for on dell website.
EDIT: something like this
A:
HP are doing 19" for a £140. we have just rolled them out at work and they are very good, sharper and better than my 20" LG
A:
TV thing is basically that it acts as a pc monitor (wide screen, 19", dvi and anologue input) but also has a tv tuner inside as well (standard not freeview). It also has the feature to do picture in picture (pc screen in a box on same screen as tv) or picture beside picture (ie half screen pc half tv). HD means high definition, the next big thing in tv apparently. Better picture really, but you need all the gear to go with it as well eg. sky hd box etc. Makes it a bit future proof, but not a deal breaker.

specs are great for the money, better than my 200 quid lg, albeit is over a year old now.
feels solid and well made and looks fine
A:
Thanks fellas.
I just found this one on Pc Worlds Web site.
19" for only £120.00 (including VAT)
It's an Advent, please tell me what you think of the specs as it doenst mean much to me.
Thanks
A:
One other thing what does repsonse rate mean and if i get one which is TV compatible can i record TV programs on CD Rom? Or do I need to buy more software/hardware for that?
Cheers!
A:
You would need a TV tuner for that, which would be integrated into the PC and a totally seperate thing to a TV Tuner built into the Monitor/TV. I'd try and get a 4ms response rate monitor too if you can, especially if you like games. The Samsung Syncmaster b'locks pointed out is what id go for. Cant find anything else as cheap with as many features in 19" widescreen.
Edit: Ive been using a Samsung Syncmaster 753DFX 17" CRT for the past few years, and its been tbe best monitor ive ever owned.
A:
Thanks for explaining that Deako..
I think I am going to bite the bullet and just buy the first one i see in PC WORLD.. MY EYES HURT!!
Cheers :)

Thanks all for your help.
I passed by PC world just before they closed and bought a Philips PHP X19
Specs as follows:
19" Viewable Screen Size
5msec Response Rate
800:1 Contrast Ratio
1280 x 1024 Maximum Monitor Resolution
0.294 mm Dot Pitch
367mm Height
426mm Width
170mm Depth
7.1kg Weight
I recieved conflicting advice in the store, one guy told me to go for a 19" LNG with a ratio of 2000:1 and another told me that even though the Philips has a ratio of 800:1 it would be clearer..
I havent opened the box yet so would be great if someone could tell me if the one I got is any good. And what is all this ratio malarky..
Thank you guys.
A:
Advent is an "own brand" - ie. cheap crap.
Get something with name on it.
I see you have just.
A:
LOL.
I couldnt contain myself, I had to open it. First impressions, I am very happy with it. V.Clear. Takes some getting use to the widescreen look but I am sure I will get use to it very soon.
Thanks Fellas
A:
the lower the response rate the better so 5ms should do you fine.
how much was the philips?
btw i'm a bit confused that the max res is 1280 x 1024 as that's not a widescreen resolution...
A:
Here are all the details for it
I initially was only going to spend £120 but the ones for that price were very cheap and nasty looking, the guy showed me a 17" Philips which looked the business for £159 and then he showed me what I could get for an extra £40.00.. And that's how I ended up buying the 19" Widescreen.
I dont know how great it compares to others, but for my needs it is perfect. My eyes dont strain, picture quality is very good. Then again anything would have been better then what i previously had, but I am well chuffed with this.
Cheers.
A:
Why did you buy it from PC World though? Felt like being ripped off?
A:
so you spent £199 on a philips 19 inch widescreen when you could have had a better samsung one for £164 with an even lower response rate.
it's your money!
