November 05th Donington Trackzone.

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

I'll definitely be tthere. Not sure about running, will have to see how the funds work out, and if the new car is legal noise wise.
Either way, I'll be taking some pics and vids.
A:

Ah the *which group* quandry...
I think i'll just roll a dice to decide
Ah well you see that is a quandry for you young dex.
Coz in novice you will have the Major bringing his own special brand of out of control mayhem around the place, & up in experienced joining me & the lads- if indeed he comes, you could have Donnys own gravel trap master that is Barney- he trys em all out for size to see which he prefers best
So you'd best play safe & go in inters mate! only normally filled with the jap crowd who've done one whole track day & think they know what they are doing & never ever check ther mirrors or pull over coz on the straights when in boost they is well wikid fast iniit......

How loud is the noise limit? i know wht level its set at, but ive no reference to go on for that?
Am going to add a second driver, so you can whack him on't list, hes andy, im Jez, in a 1.6 16v polo
A:

Daves monza blue valver was back on the road today following its ring repairs, he has booked up for this in the intermediate group.
Also told another friend who has almost finished putting together a mk2 16v track car, if he can get it to stealth for a tune up in time he's going to come along.
looking like a good turn out, anyone know the total number of places available for the day?

I guess 98 db? Anyone know any different?
Great stuff all - 20 drivers/sharing drivers, loads of peeps, and a decent big meet. Just what we wanted to achieve, and sets us up nicely.
All this reminds me of the days when we were limbering up for the big season closer Track Day at Combe (double click pics to start):
Brief bit of Combe covered in VWs (needs full screen mode):
Last one's just been sitting on my 'pooter for 4 years btw, needs full screen. (cheers to Barny & Speedo for putting the brief footage I have of the old Jetta together)
Vid quality changed a bit in recent years!
A:

eek!
im on the list twice!
confusion!
A:

The Seat boys a couple of years ago managed to book a complete session just for them, probably too late for us to try that now though. It would be nice to see all of us together in a session but then experience and safety is the priority of the day.
I remember from the Seat day that Bill was moved up a group, as the speed differetial and experience mix were deemed to be very unsafe.

'scuse my ignorance, but eh?
A:

I think he means you can borrow his standard 16v exhaust system if you're worried about your exhaust being over 98dba...
A:

Ah, gotcha.
Thanks for the offer, but if it's not legal then I'll just take some pics and enjoy the scenery.
A:

If it is over the noise limit you won't get a refund
A:

Which is why I'm going to get hold of a noise meter thingy (technical term that) before I book.
A:

Good call

Think the format has changed a little after the building of the new garages, I was there last week and even though the web site says the garages have to be paid for + a deposit they were all open for anyone to use. The briefing and signing-on was in the café, each group did 3 or 4 laps behind the course car after the briefing starting with the beginners.
They said they the noise limits have to be strictly adhered to and ask anyone in the briefing to have a word if they think there car may be close or beyond the noise limits so they can help rather than throw then off the track, if in doubt they ask you bring some sort of end can or silencer extension but will let you try the car before fitting if needed.
The infield had been close off to all vehicles (even the back route the marshals normally use ) but the foot access was open, vehicles are allowed around the outside of the circuit up to coppice but only from the paddock end.
Other than that it business as usual
A:

Great to hear about the garages. I couldn't see the sense in £99 days and £50 garages.
A:

Is there space to get my lorry set up with the awning and hospitality area seat out

The whole of the paddock area to yourself
A:

Hi fella, I dont know where you live but if you're close enough to Andover I can do the noise test on your car and if needs must you can always bolt a silencer into the middle section.
A:

When I was at Donington in my pug in July the garages were free.
