Stu hows the car have you sorted out your cars engine think last time i saw it you were considering buying some oil shares due to your car using so much
Quite true!
Yes, all sorted now. I have the 1.8 16v safely stored in the corner of my garage for spare parts and a nice low mileage (no oil usage) 2L 6A engine in the car! Goes much better now
Cool good to hear that your golf is nice and heathly again. I haven't seen another with aircon can't be a lot of them in he UK
A:
Andy, I forgot to ask, did you get away with stowing away in the hotel room mate ?
and remember to take some spare extra exhaust rubbers
Well in the end they where able to fit me in so no are well. And yes i have 5 exhaust rubbers in the back of my c waiting for the next time and also to pay back the once i used of I V - mk1 16v.

I want to come this time, really missed it this summer
I really am intending to pull my finger out of my ar$e and get the project of mine up and running early next year

I agree with what Chris and the Lizard are saying about Spa.
I would presume it's a bit like Silverstone but with a couple of hills (and one rather big uphill one!), more suited to exotica due to it's Formula nature (long and wide).
I would probably go and have a little nosey though if I could, like Chris mentioned, just to see what's about in the paddock and flying around on track.

Yeah Chaps, I am up for camping might have to suppliment my camp kit and visit the stores again but dont see that being a bother.
Did you pre-book or just turn up on the day?
Is it quite a large site?
English speaking owners?

The first campsite we checked out wasnt very friendly, German only I think and wanted 7 euro per night It was a couple of miles away from Nurburg and we couldnt even have a look around first without paying.,
The one where I stayed was just of the main road we noticed a few tents and trailers and went for a deco and was simply first come first served.
The chap who lets it didnt come round until early on the Saturday morning. He gave me a weekend pass and charged me 6 Euro, being honest I said that i arrived on thursday but I didnt get charged any extra.
Everyone else on the camp site was german but it was very friendly,
Next to my tent was a few chaps with 1.4 Mk3 Golfs, lots of flip paint, vents, fake rear discs and big spoilers . One of the golfs was even kitted out with pretty stocked mini bar on the rearshelf.

CampingPlatz Mullenbach is the one you want - down the hill, opposite from the GP circuit. 3/4 mile.

Theres an interesting story in this months Evo;
"The worlds most ultimate speed limit free toll road is swiftly becoming the worlds most demanding car park. The Nurburgring has seen a 500% increase in visitors, and as a consequence there are now occasions when you have to queue to get off the circuit. Upgraded ticketing systems are planned and should ease the problem"
Suppose the high media coverage has increased interest, browsing the various car forums it seems that almost every one of them organises an annual pilgrimage, do you have problems in the week or is it mainly weekends??
Really fancy going again next year, have to see how my finances plan out, enjoyed the last visit no end would love to go again, plus I have just been in the garage turning the BMW over its putting bad thoughts in my head
Pete

I'm not at all suprised at those figures Peter.
I'm afraid it has become a victim of it's own success.
As you all know I do love the track, the surroundings etc but all the media coverage of the past two or three years has taken the sparkle from a magical place imo.
I'm even wondering if it's worth bothering to go for full weekend and days before/after as we have done before. And just do a few evening sessions or something... it's a lot less crowded and much better on the track.
I saw pics/read about etc people queuing on Dottingher hohe 20 mins to get off the track last summer

Its a shame, I guess your tied to going in the busy summer months as you need the guarantee of good weather, taking a chance and going in the quieter months is a bit to risky spending a few hundred quid and taking time off work only to get rained out wouldn’t be much fun I imagine it would be quite a nice place to live, they seem to have a good quality of life and the surrounding countryside is amazing, could go to the track at a drop of a hat then if the weather was good, they must get some brilliant days in the winter where its sunny and dry (with that nice cold dense air!) but almost empty what do the locals think of all this extra traffic coming in?

May just do that to use up all my spare bits (again) lol

Yep, must be nice to just turn up as and when..
'spose the hotel/b+b etc must be rubbing their hands, but the track regulars must get p1ssed off.

.... p1ssed me off last time, was like being at a castle combe action day

It's not that bad B, you just have to choose your time to go on track, 8-10am and 5-7pm on the Sat/Sun NOT the middle of the day. Evening sessions are quiet in comparison.
We found this year even tho the car park was rammed full and a nightmare which 'should' say that the track itself is busy. Wasn't the case, lots of car park posers with their bonnets up doing feck all on the track if you ask me.
The car park is the biggest problem, it's just not BIG enough for the amount of traffic.
Saying that tho, even tho I do love the place the appeal for me isn't quite the same as it used to be.
I have been 'a few times' I suppose.

We'll be doing our usual (cold) Easter jaunt, and will do our best to be there in the summer too.
I'll assume photographer's position trackside when I run out of cash for laps - as per usual...
See you there.
Jo
A:
Be good if you could make it Jo - I will be joining you trackside with me new (well had it a few months) posh camera Fuji S5100
A:
id love to come but i need to get some track time over here first i will see what happens... and get some international AA cover first
A:
Better off putting your money to the Nurburgring fund rather than track time in the UK.
Absolutely nothing in the UK compares or prepares you for the ring!
Your better off driving up Hartside a few times!
A:
I did the 'ring first before doing UK trackdays, but that was in the days before every fecker went

Gary
What about weekdays...are they any quieter?
I was thinking going in May or June for a mid week excursion in 2006.
Like you if it's full and like the CCC days at Coombe it will spoil it....I'd rather save my £500+ on the effort
Ian

These days it's never as quiet as it used to be, but the weekday evenings aren't bad ( you only get 2 hrs a night )
As I mentioned above, if you get there for 8am on a weekend you get a couple of hours before it get's busy, then again when everyone buggers off late afternoon so you can get some good laps in at the end of the day.
We always go when it's a full weekend, but apparently if you choose a weekend when a VLN race is on the Saturday, you'll find it's not so busy on the Sunday.
One thing you do have to realise which some tend to forget is that it's NOT a track day, there's no marshals on each corner, no breifings, no helmets ( not compulsory but advisable ) and a mixture of vehicles, speeds and abilities.
It's something I would recommend anyone thats interested in cars should do at least once in their life, but you do have to approach it with an open mind and be aware of all the dangers involved.

Cheers Gary....I'm just going for the experience and take in the atmosphere.
It's too far away to prang the car...as you've mentioned you need loads of time to even get a vague idea the layout of the cicuit. It's something I will probably only do once.
Might be interested in Thruxton in August....I've been around it on an BMW Mpower day as passenger in an M3.
It's quick Bill....very quick and committed..your Beeza will be very quick around there.
Ian

I know its quick ian... but the destruction to the nsf tyre is what does'nt appeal. mines hard enough at normal tracks on that tyre let alone thruxton.
one day perhaps.
