A&Q about 350Z
Q:
Chris - The idea of allowing metering head modifications was to introduce some enginuity, although the standard unit MUST remain in place. Swapping for a different metering head will not be allowed whether VW item or not. Not sure how much involvement the TO has had with VW's, will find out. If you are seriously interested in getting involved with the series then drop me a PM.
mr hillclimber - , I understand totally!!!
Will discuss the minimum weight issue, like the idea of minimum weight to include the driver, especially if suits the 'a more ample gentleman!!!'
AWK-53 - Yes, airbox modification section needs rewording, the intention was to only allow modification to the lower section of the airbox BEFORE the filter element.
So, what does everone think would be the ultimate car for the series....late small bumper 16V?????
Thanks for the support, please keep the comments coming in, they will become discussion items for our meeting on wednesday evening

Wish i could take part in this even more at the moment.
Really sounds like its going to be good fun. When will a list of events for 2007 be published? Or is it going to be 2008?
A:
PM sent Circuitstar

Deako - The series will be on the grid 2007, not 2008.
AWK-53 - Answered your PM, thanks for registering your interest.

I definatley the very late small bumper 16v's are gonna be the sought after car for this one.
If the rules are just clarified on the points brought up, and the cams stay KR then it should be a very cheap series to enter... The only major spending point i could see is on coilovers, still possible to spend near £2k just a Leda even without remote reservoirs.
Other than that it's really gonna be about VW knowledge and lots of cheap little tricks to get them sorted.
A:
I just can't think how you get around the suspension issue - Ledas are the obvious choice, but if, say, you banned them (madness I know) then people would go and find the next nearest high quality stuff.
A:
CircuitStar - Whats the format of the actual racing going to be? Number of laps etc?

Suppose they could allow fixed platform suspension only. Ledas would still be widely used, but a lot cheaper than the coilovers.
A:
I was thinking the same Deako...
A:
Doesnt stock hatch only allow fixed platform?
A:
I think coilovers are the right way forward as long as you ban remote reservoirs. Fixed platforms are a PITA really, you end up having to get bespoke springs made, which are then really short to get the ride height as they are a high poundage. Then you pretty much have to get leda's for the shocker insert. So all in still looking at £700min.
Whereas you can get a set of Gaz Gold coilovers or similar, built to your required spec (very similar design/performance to leda) for probably £600ish which should still be competative. This then gives you a bit of adjustablity to play with ride height (within the regs!)

I'd go as far to suggest a control spring and damper package if the series was aimed at being truely affordable. Make it so the best performace mod is a few hours in the gym
A:
Most short oval formula's use price limits to control which shockers are used. With the Superstox the limit is £75 per corner. The ruling also states that the units must be available to anyone at that price.
Perhaps a similar rule might work here?

Bingo.
The advantage of coilovers is off the shelf springs. It's a total headache sourcing bespoke springs for fixed platforms - not to mention the lead times involved in sourcing the damn things.

Yes and the front running 106 a couple of years ago spent £1k on a *pair* of ohlins front dampers.
People always find a way to throw money at it.
However - control dampers would be an excellent idea - ask Gaz if they will run a group deal.
A:
I'd leave the suspension reg alone. I'd guess alot of people looking at this will already have some sort of coilover set up on their car or available to them, so having to buy control stuff is just adding £££'s. I think there needs to be some areas of freedom and personal preference within the regs. The none-remote reservoir limitation is enough IMO.
I'd also allow eccentric front top mounts. They're not expensive and again would allow some scope for development.
A:
I think i might have the answer, why not place a max build cost on the cars? i know in some american bike series they did this, it made the series very competitive. If there was a tie up with some parts suppliers, making the parts cheaper, then it would be easier to police?
A:
You can't regulate build costs easily though.
A:
looks like its going to be a interesting series we done the max5 series this year and it was a good learning curve, heres the regs we were raceing to controled shocks, tyres, weight ect
A:
Maybe the shocks could be controlled by agreeing a deal with a suitable manufacturer and getting a discounted price. Then they are sold through the GTIracing website where you also have to buy the cams from. This way everything would really be equal but I'm sure that most people would want to run their own favourite brand. This way though would also control the money spent on dampers.
