Returned from Donnington.

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

What a great day....bone dry too.
Good to see a good mixture of cars....plenty of Lotus Exiges .....stunning....the new 240R.
Great to see a few Vee dubs including Chris in his MK1 ex Slick 50.
Good standard of driving with some nice cars in the Paddock. The Gallardo sounded Awesome against the E46 M3 ....left the M3 for dead down the main straight.
I stayed on road tyres today as did Graham and we both achieved some very pleasing lap times....all on the vid
The MKIV still manages to surprise both myself and Graham in his 2 litre 16V 200hp.
On my Goodyears I found turn less positive against his car but the torque gave a good advantage out of bends. Tyres lasted the course and they have worn very evenly for such a heavy car.
No CV boot issues today...must be Combe and hot weather being the cause.
New 2.0 FSI TT going well on track as was a Clio Cup race car up for sale....very quick with sequential box.
Last trackday this year for me and hopefully the Ring beckons for next year....may have different car if not a new turbo

when do we get to see the vid??
A:

Yep, good day - slotted in a last minuter in the Golf that went to the 'Ring thanks to an entry passed to me - cheers Andrew . Usual six or so sessions - all good fun. Managed to make it through the day, just, on the same DS3000s that went to the 'Ring, though had to change them before heading homeward!
Still very sceptical about Coppice! Funny, funny corner....
Quieter day today than 2 weeks ago, but probably the weather playing its part as it was nippy.
Briefing was miles better than 2 weeks ago, held in proper room (press room, above garages) with proper rows of seats, excellent audibilty. Track manners were definitely good, though less cars.
Car of the day (apart from the Gallardo, and a CSL which had sounds well worth paying for) was a Lada Estate.
Looked like far more trouble than it actually was, but the large Weller-style steels sugggested this was a sleeper and a half. My mind was thinking V8s, or Cossie turbo, but it sounded OE. Done properly, that would be the ultimate track day stealth machine tbh. Right up there with the Volvo 340 "Challenged Stradale" from the August 'Ring trip.
Strange - this owner had a beard too...

Glad you both had a good day and the weather held. That lada looks wicked, i guess that they are RWD???
Would have been good to see and hear the lambo and i'd be interested to see how quick the clio cup car was too.
Hurry up with the vids Ian!
A:

The Clio Cup car looked really quick - I guess a lap record could be found somewhere, will check MST in a sec - edit: 1m 19.3 fastest lap this yr in July..
They just look so nippy, with that seq box, ultra late braking into Goddards - and £12.5k, which is, err, worrying. Get one road registered and you'd be away....
A:

Chris - I've met the lad with the Lada estate before and had a look at it, it's in very good condition, standard wheels and suspension though when I saw it.
He posts on RetroRides forum, see here for more info on the car:

A:

Quality cheap motorsport! Looks like he's done a day at Curborough on Oct 21 with the Scooby lads - hats off to him! He's now done the suspension. Apparently a wheel came off it on a session mid afternoon - I didn't see it being removed off track, and it was parked opposite the Diner when I left, looking like it might be spending a night there. Four wheels on it though... and no obvious marks... Could have been the legendary powder coating on the Wellers melting where the wheel bolt shoulders bite up...

Wouldn't have a clue about posting video's on here I'm afraid. Shame as they are excellent quality battling against the Exiges......will certainly be on Dunlop DO1J's next time
Still little KO3s blower performed admirably all things considered although a proper set up is on the cards all being well.
A:

If you can get them on the computer and compress them, a Photobucket account or youtube account will be a good place to load them.
A:

The Clio cup cars are certainly very nippy little things however if you want something a little faster lap round donnie 1.16.6 there is a nice SEAT Supercopa car for sale on the for cars sale section of this forum.
A:

But is it £12.5 k? The Clio was...
A:

No it is not, however is the clio only one season old with a 4 race old motor? And has the SEAT been banged nope and you can put money on it that the clio has, also the clio could be 6 years old and have a motor gearbox and diff to match it. But i guess you only get what you pay for?
A:

Clio was a re-shell, brand new, out the box. Mint. £12.5k. Their motors run reprogrammed ECUs on standard engines, so 4 races is no wear & tear at all...
A:

No I meant the SEAT only has a 4 race old motor. Was the Clio yellow and silver by chance? If its a re-shell chances are the box motor and diff are older items and the LSD in the clio is renowned for losing its torque, and like you say the clio motor is a standard road unit unlike the SEAT, and the SEAT is 3 seconds a lap faster in the dry and upto 7 seconds in the wet so it depends what your after really mate? As for road registering a race car..maybe not.
A:

Plenty of ex-racers get made road legal, its not that hard. I've seen a few ex-supercup Porkers, still on centrelocks too!
Didn't realise the Leons ran at that sort of pace. Would probably make a good Britcar Prod S1 car if you could make the tyres last.
A:

they already do nick. couple of ex copa's this year.
A:

Thought so Bill, but wasn't totally sure. Now I remember a yellow one at Brands for sure. Think the ex. GT Golf IV ran that weekend too. Getting old, brain fading etc!
A:

just saw the car at Forge one day this year being outfitted with FMIC, and the guy posts on occasion on seatcupra.net
Sounds like they did ok in their 1st year.
so much so the driver/team has got a new £40k seat supercopa car to run in britcar next year! rich #2 driver who like his racing and toys.. fair play. (not jealous at all - lol)
A:

Yea a couple of the championship cars have apparently been sold for britcar this season. Theres a 40K leon that someones built to supercopa standards and trying to shift for silly money on race cars direct etc. Would be a great britcar as theres plenty more horses left to sqeeze out of that motor and with a bit more camber and solid mountings etc im sure it would be grand. there was one wont the dubai 24hrs recently the top 10 cars consisted of 6 supercopas, I thought that was pretty impressive!
