Not as much fun though

how do you usually prove previous track day experience?
Interesting point! I just said yes that I had done track days before... I suppose that if it comes to the crunch, and you have a claim, then you have to prove it and would need a letter from the organiser of a previous track day that you took part in, and if you couldn't do that then the excess would adjusted accordingly
eg all the track days that Volkswagen Driver organise are reported on in the magazine, with a list of participants published, and often photos too...

good reading your opinions. something to take into consideration, trackdays will obviously carry more risk than a car insured for normal road driving. the nature of a track day is that you are on a private track with no speed limits pushing the boundries of your car and yourself. the track enviroment is safer to do this (no oncoming traffic, less to hit, knowledge of a circuit is quickly built up) but there is also more risk involved due to the very nature of what you are doing. the risk of driving to tesco in 30-40mph zones is obviously less.
another point of note. how many accidents have you seen at a track be it race day or trackday? guaranteed you'll have seen more than you'll ever see on countless thousand miles on the road. that shows that trackdays and also competetive race days have more risk.
it may make the trackday/race day more expensive but after putting a lot of money into a race car or having a road car above a certain value think if the financial loss you would end up with if you stacked it on a trackday. for example a 20k r32 with 12k in finance owed on the vehicle. if you stack it you'll owe £12k to a finance company on an oustanding loan and unless you are very well off i doubt you would be able to have a car of the same value for a long time.
at the end of the day everything has a risk and a price. depends if you want to twist or stick...
