alloy top mounts for mk1 - obvious questions?

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

Hi guys!
Looking at buying alloy top mounts to fit with my uprated shocks, just wondering what the difference between the concentric and eccentric ones
Also what would the change in the way of ride height? Would they mount the shocks lower or higher in the shell?
Thanks, Will

Concentric means the hole for the strut to mount to is in the centre, this is the same as factory topmounts and retains origional camber ans castor. eccentric ones have the hole off centre which enables the camber and castor to be altered by rotating the topmount and fixing it to the car in various fixing holes pre drilled in the plate. You will need coilovers for the eccentric mounts to work as they give more clerance inside the turrett.
If you are looking at the solid TAS style ones they will raise the car and to retain the origional ride height you will end up with a reduced spring length which can cause the car to be very crashy.

The round ones don't fit very well. If you look at a standard one, you'll see it's quite a distinctive shape which matches the underside of the turret. I imagine you'll also end up drilling extra holes too.

I've got the eccentric ones from Rally design fitted to my mk1. The turrets do need a little modification on the inside with a grinder to get them to fit nice and flush and 1 or 2 extra holes drilled in the turrets. You will lose about a 1" of travel as the mount sits this much lower and they are also pretty crashy over bumps.
But they do cope with higher poundage front springs, some people have had no probs using standard topmounts with 350lb+ springs, but i found that i kept knackering them once i went to this poundage.
And they do give you adjustablity for camber, castor and scrub radius, but bear in mind that you can't have standard geo once these are fitted and there will always be a compromise between your ideal angles, as you can't adjust each parameter independantly.

thanks guys that was most informative.
Got some decision making to do especially if you have to have coil overs for them.
