Going standard

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

I've currently got some 35 mm lowered springs and Boge turbogas shocks. Ride still too hard for the Mrs. Going standard ride height now but intend to keep the shocks. Wheres the best place to get the standard Mk 2 16v springs and would these be okay with Boge turbogas.
Thanks

boge turbos are not that hard. have you checked your bump stops? when i got my car, the bump stops at the rear allowed about 5mm of travel. i hacked them back a bit and it was lovely after that

Hi Matt Golf!
I've got Boge Turbo gas shocks with H&R springs, which I'm about to swap for VAG springs on acount of the back end being way to hard for my liking right now. My set up has been unbearable, but that's a whole different thread (think I got sent the wrong rear springs!)
Have you fitted your standard springs yet?
If so, how is the ride now? I'm particularly interested in the back end, and what its like with passengers in the back and over speed bumps
Also, Did you cut down your bump stops as suggested by Matt82, or did you use new standard length ones?
Cheers
Chris

I'm running 16V springs and Boge and the ride and handling are great - though I also have Eibach ARB kit. Std bumpstops and I also fitted Powerflex bushes all round so I get a bit more road noise but can't fault the ride. I'd put a wanted ad up first as VW springs ain't cheap - how much did you pay dohc?
A lot of cheap springs are hard and give very crashy ride over out wonderful roads - it not like we pay for their upkeep or anything!!!

Hi Barkstar
Thanks for the feedback
I've just bought a pair of new VAG rear springs (191511115F - 5 door, for extra boing!) for £97ish from my local dealer. I spent a mint back in April having Stealth Racing fit new Boge Turbo dampers, H&R springs, pretty much all new rubber bushes, new VAG wishbones with bushes, new top mounts, bump stops etc..
Basically I regret trying to save cash on the H&R springs - they were recommended but I'm starting to think that the H&R rear springs may have been the wrong spec as they sit really low - some have said it looks like a 60mm drop on the back, which might look cool but rides like @rse on Nottingham's many speed bumps
Here's my recent cries for help / advice - includes pics of golfy looking stupid low at the back:
The front end is great, so I'm hoping I can keep the H&Rs on the front - handling is good, cornering is great compared to what it used to be like, but the rear suffers on bumps with little or no load. I've even gone back to 14inch Montreal rims as a stopgap to make life a bit more bearable!
I'm told it might be bad to mix firm front springs and softer rear springs, but if it does anything strange I'll probably splash out on VAG front springs too..
- So you reckon Boge Turbo dampers on VAG 16v springs are a good combination?
I had new bumpstops fitted in April with the main job, but they said they cut them down because of the slight (understatement!) lowering, so I may need to dash out and buy some new ones - GSF will have them handy, but I'm unsure if I should stick with VAG ones:
- Did you cut the standard bumpstops down at all at the back? I'm guessing not, so I will probably have to replace.
- were they VAG or a.n.other brand bumpstops? GSF maybe?
Cheers for the advice

I have not fitted the suspension yet. Doing it tomorrow. The car cannot be driven anyway due to the fact its stripped down. Got springs from GSF. Will see how the car sits and let you know.

Cheers Matt!

I fitted GSF rear bumpstops and didn't cut them (£9 each for a bit of foam) - VW only do one stop 1.3 or 16V so they should be fine. I don't think theres any issue with them being GSF, neither seem to last well.
I did think about sourcing a set of genuine G60 springs - a bit harder and a tad lower than 16V but at nearly £200 a set blimey! So if I decide to uprate I'll get Eibachs, I've had them before on my Mk1 and they rode pretty well.
Surprised about the H&R as they are held as the equal to Eibachs but I have no personal experience.

did you check the bump stops?
if the car is significantly lowered, then the bump stops will need to have been butchered
