A&Q about 350Z
Q:
hi all, sorry if this has been posted b4 but like most forums, the search is rubbish !
I have a mk1 cab and fitted are a set of 17`s with 205/40/17 tyers.
i have H&R coil overs, and to be honest driving is horrible, so im guessing its the 17`s. will i see a difference in fitting 16`s ? i would go to 15`s but i dont like the look of them.
so would i see a big difference to dropping an inch to 16" alloy ? id probably fit 45 profile tyers.
I`m sure theres loads of people here who have had this problem and can give good tried and tested advice so ever comment greatly needed..
Cheers, Dave..

I've never had a Mk1, but I guess the majority of answers you'll get will be for 15's.

16s are the biggest you can go on a mk1, even that will ride a bit hard/weird/not to comfy/arch work time
15s seem to be the best allrounders really.
i have both on the mk1's

my arches are rolled already so clearence is no problem, its more about the comfort.
so ur saying its really just 15`s ?

yeah for ease and comfort 15s are off the shelf and fit the bill.

15s give the best ride and handling no doubt about it.
A:
the main factors involved with ride/handling are tyre profile and wheel offset.
if the profile is lower the ride gets harsher since there is less tyre to soak up bumps as it were.
having the wrong offset wheels messes up the scrub radius. this is the distance fronm the centre of the tyre to the point about which the wheel turns.
another issue people often forget is that bigger wheels weigh more, and when they are rotating you get gyroscopic effect, which makes it harder to change direction. plus theres the issue of increased unsprung weight.
big wheels look sweet, but on the road they just bugger up the handling generally. i`d probably stick with 15s. although tbh it depends whether you want looks or handling....
A:
7 x 15 are the best all rounder for a mk1 but you might need the rear arches folded in to stop scuffing the tyre if your cornering hard or use the rear seats.

Thanks for the feed back guys, im in a dilema, do i stick with my sweet looking 17`s or opt for a comphey ride and hadling... hmmmm
cant i comprimise with 16`s ?
or would it be just as hard as the 17`s ?
any1 got sum pics of some nice 15`s i could put on my mk1 white cabriolet, need sum brain storming, i have 5 spoke 17`s at the mo.
i think im really gona have to search for a set of 15`s i like...

ok i think every one has missed another pooint here about why dave_p ride doesnt handle ots been stated lots of times by ppl on here running cabbys that suspension kits just dont suit mk1 cabbys if i remeber right eibach was the only company design springs maybe a whole kit that was purposly designed for the cabby

now you can ''slam the bit*h''
mk1's look sweet slammed!!
put some ra's on it, i have some nice new mims, well secondhand!!! but heres a pic of them refurbed, they were going on a mk 1 to start off with but got the wrong offset, but perfect for ma rado

mate of mine had a cab with avo coilovers with the appropriate eibach springs on it, that b**ch was so low he had a groove in the chassis from the o/s driveshaft and once got a coke can stuck between the sump and the road when he was driving, lol

but going back on topic, i think 16s with 45 profile tyres should be a halfway house between looks and handling. its just getting tyres then, 195/45 16s aren`t the most abundant of sizes, so i`m not sure what you`d be looking at pricewise..

very easy to get hold of, got them on my 16's set of toyos which were £35 a corner i think

Get some fat looking Retro rims on 14".
Driving my MK1 on standard 13" rims for a stort while it was amazing how comfortable the ride was in comparrison to the 15". Looked crap on steels admittedly.
Domma.......

Thanks for all the feed back guys, maybe my H&R coilovers are originally for the mk1 ?
I bought them about 6 years ago. So Eibach are the only company that make a set especially for the mk1 cabriolet ? Do they do coil overs ? Fully adjustable ?
I dont suppose any1 has a link to a web page of these shocks ? I`d really like to look at changing the suspension rather than me wheels...
cheers
