A&Q about 350Z
Q:
thinking about converting the back rear drum to a disc brake version off a gti.
whats all involved with this conversion.
will i need the whole axle off a gti.
A:
you wont need the whole beam, just the stub axes
not sure about other parts you will need like, new flexi hoses, handbrake cables, metal brake lines ect
A:
would be better to use a complete rear beam off a GTI as they have the ARB built into them aswell.
A:
its best to go for a complete beam though, because then you get the ARB as well. Plus at the same time you can put nice shiny poly bushes in [:]
A:
would i be best to just go to the local scrap yard. or can you get them new from gsf or someone like that.
A:
If you go to a scrappy, get later MK3 ones as they have a better handbrake design. Easy to tell, if they have a big spring on the outside they're the old MK2 design, if not they're the new MK3 design
A:
whats Arb do jonny boy. is that the device that puts more brake pressure at the back wheels, the further down the car goes on the suspension.
i heard before somewere that the mk 3 calipers have a better design for the handbrake.
is it the mk3 gti i have to get the beam off.
A:
nah thats the rear brake pressure regualtor
I was refering to the Anti Roll Bar
Just need the MK3 calipers, I don't think the MK3 beam will work. Well it might, but I think its wider than a MK2 beam?
A:
is it worth while going to the scrappie to get a set.
or would it be just as handy (although dearer) to get a new set of calipers, without the bother of having to unseize any parts.
who does a good set of braided brake hoses.
will i then need a mk3 handbrake cable to.
cheers for all the info

Has you Golf got a brake pressure regulator? If you fit rear discs and don't have a regulator you'll spend a lot of time spinning round in circles. A GTi rear beam will have the right brackets but you need to check there's a bracket on the bodys underside for the regulator if you haven't got one. If you do fit a GTi beam you need to fit a matching front anti roll bar to match or the car will understeer for fun. Lastly are you fitting the discs in the hope it'll stop better? It won't, the only reason to fit discs is cosmetic unless you are pushing big bhp and doing track days.
