Q:
My memory is failing me, and I cant remember the difference between the front wishbone rear bush on a MK2 Golf and a MK3 Golf.
I know that you get the sleeve insert on a mk2 Golf fitment bush, and that the subframe on a mk3 Golf has horseshoe type guidance for fitment of the wishbone, but is there any actual differences in the bushes themselves?
link here for the powerflex site
The bushes are
MK2 Golf fitment PFF85-203
MK3 Golf fitment PFF85-204

the bushes are different m8 - there is a metal sleeve in the center of the mk3 bushes that makes the bush itself sit proud of the subframe, the sleeve going inside the horseshoe shaped ridge and the bush sitting clear of the ridge - seem to recall Bill buying mk2 bushes for his beeze and having to cut them to clear the ridge
powerflex list different bushes for 5 bolt and 4 bolt mk3....dont think they are different though

yep.. beware of peeps saying one bush does both. they dont
mk4 bushes have moulded metal inner like mk3's

This is why people should use the correct Mk3 bush when using the Mk3 subframe on a VR6 conversion. Apparently you will just chew through a normal Mk2 bush if you stick with the narrowtrack setup and Mk2 wishbones.

I havent been misadvised by anyone, or any company.
its a little complicated, and until this morning when I was on the powerflex site sorting some bushes for a mate's MK2, I had forgotten what I had done
Used to have 5 stud mk3 wishbones in a mk2 subframe, so had mk2 bushes. Now using the same wishbones in an ibiza, and didnt think anything of using them as they were even tho the subframe is a MK3 Golf type.
I knew that the mk2 bushes would come with the sleeve that the MK3 wont need, but was unsure of the bush being different
Thanks to mr T up there, I understand why the difference (now that my brain is awake!)

They say the same about the rear axles bushes, and guess what? I got caught out too.
