New Voltage Reg - still probs

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

I have just replaced the voltage regulator on my Mk1 GTi 1800, as the battery light was flickering intermittently and eventually not charging at all. I got a new voltage regulator from GSF. The problem now is that in order to get the battery light to go out I have to rev the engine to over 3000rpm (not good when engine is cold). Once the voltage regulator starts the alternator charging the battery it is fine and works as it should, but I thought this was supposed to happen at about 1400rpm. Have I got a dud regulator? Is it just because it is a cheap GSF part? Should I get a genuine Bosch one? Or is it an alternator problem (which was a GSF replacement part fitted about 2 years ago)?
Thanks for your help.

i had a mk2 that did the same...well it needed about 1500 to make the light go out, never fixed it

I could live with 1500rpm, but over 3000 revs is excessive, especially in winter when you need lights and heater fan etc almost all the time, so you need to be charging the battery from start-up and not waiting til it warms up a bit before revving it to start charging the battery. Anybody else got any ideas?

the gsf one i had also did this, very annoying
A:

They're cr4p - get a genuine part...
A:

Aye,all the gsf ones do it.
They are a diffarent voltage rating to the genuine ones.

mine (gsf) does this, light goes out at about 2000rpm. why do you need the light to go out before the engine is hot? just drive with it on till the engines ready to rev to 3000?
