A&Q about 350Z
Q:
Hi all, ... new to this forum. It looks like a great place to talk about my new GTI!
I've had my GTI for a little over 2 weeks now and I've just thrown my 2nd Check Engine Light. My dealer is a good 40 min drive for me and taking it in there everytime for them to say, "its nothing, there are no codes" and reset my light is ridiculous. My car is stock. Do you all have this problem with your C.Eng. Lights? Should I take it seriously and take it in to the dealer? Is there any way of resetting the light myself? I know with my last truck, there was a certain procedure with the key in the iginition that would reveal any thrown codes in the dash computer. Anything like that on the GTI?
I just find this really annoying. A 2 week old vehicle should not have 2 check engine lights already.
thanks...

What car! Mk5 im assuming?
The dealers should be fairly gospel on this. A 2nd opinion might not go amiss tho.
Not heard of other instances. Gillim might know.
welcome btw!

Yes, it is an '07 MkV. I have no trouble or notice anything unusually...just that damn light.

I just bought an '01 GTI VR6 two days ago. My check engine light just came on today.
In the glove box I found paperwork that shows at 25k (now 87k) the check engine light came on and they had to replace the mass airflow sensor.
I don't want to waste $ taking it to the dealer. Any ideas ??????

^The light on could signify many errors.
You need to get them read and that prob means the dealer.
Unlikely to be maf again.

Well I copied the error list from this site and a local auto parts store will do a free diagnostic for check engine light errors. I am gonna check it out tomorrow. Do I risk major damage to the engine ? The car did 130 mph on the way home from work tonight no problem...

Well the auto parts store did find out what the light is on for........The O2 sensor in front of the cat. The want $130 just to buy the part !!!! I went online and found it at autopartswharehouse.com for $45 delivered. WTF ???????
A:
^yeah, those sort of parts always seem cheaper on the net - thank god!

Woah - Go and take it to a proper garage. I've replaced mine and it's still coming up with the same fault code. I'm thinking wiring now.
When my lambda genuinely went, it drank petrol and the fumes reeked of rotten eggs all the time.[X((]
