im going to buy a new heater matrix for my 8v mk2 . but on gsf they list 2 types which one is the one i need. alsothe black flange on the side of head is the part listed below?
17832B HEATER MATRIX G2 8/83 >7/92 36.50
17832 HEATER MATRIX G2 8/83 >7/92 25.00
17953H WATER FLANGE ON HEAD-END G2 1.6 / 1.8 / GTI 8V / D / TD 84>91 3.85

I ordered the 17832B recently. I just assumed the 'B' to mean 'better quality' which is what this normally means with GSF numbers.

one will be cheap italian copy, other will be OEM quality

Yeah, the one I got was a good make that I recognise, although I cannot recall what it was now. Came complete with a few gaskets and seals and things.

is it worth replaceing the hoses aswell cause i want to ditch the by pass valves. do the new hoses from gsf come without the by pass. many thanks

I bought this one and it was manufactured by the same people as the original. be careful putting the new gaskets on, they rip very easily. it was a horrible job fitting the matrix. there is a very good write up on here in the FAQs.

just use a length of copper pipe and some jubilee clips - much cheaper
