As above - they are ok on the way down - probably due to gravity, but on the way back up they are very slow and sometimes stop...
Any suggestions for a VAG newbie.

try gresing the runners up with some silicone lube, if that don't help try replacing the front glass channels. If that don't help either I'm afraid its new motor time
Edit: You can get a brand new 'electric life' kit from GSF for about £100+VAT, which aint half bad
