A&Q about 350Z
Q:
The black MK1 is running nicely now and I'm getting used to the power , I've sorted brakes and suspension to my likes now I need more oomph , it'll still be a road car , but not every day use.
I do a bit of porting/polishing of heads as a sideline , so that'll be done .... other things I'm thinking of are...
1. 4 branch manifold... Any particular type that works well on fast road engines , mild steel is fine for me.
2. Fast road cam.... Any recomendations? Mebbe the likes of Kent's GS2H? or Newman 264/280?
3. Lighten and balanced bottom end.... are the rod bolts good enough or any suggested uprated ones?
4. With the head off to be worked on , I'll be skimming it to be safe , what's the safe max compession ratio , for say , pump fuel of 95 RON with octane boost?
5. Any ideas for a not too heavy clutch , or is the OE one good enough?
6. New injectors , but what do I do to the K-jet to make it meet the extra air flowing thru the head?
7. Also , what's needed for a 1900cc conversion?
I'd be hoping to crack 130 odd bhp , anyone with similar spec tell me what they're making in torque and bhp.
Cheers and much love in advance!

1. Ashley do a 4-1 mild steel manifold. The ports in the flange may need opening up a bit, depending on how big you make yr exhaust ports and it may need a little "tweeking" to make it fit nice. I think most other manifolds are Stainless steel, Supersprint do a nice one but its not cheap.
2. You mention GS2"H", are you using a hydraulic head ?
3. Standard rod bolts are fine if yr only building a fast road engine and not reving past 7k ish (highly unlikely on a fast road spec cam). Have the flywheel lightened "professionally", balancing not essential on a fast road type engine but nice if you want to spend the money.
4. Standard compression ratio on an 1800 MK1 (I'm guessing thats what yours is) is 10:1 so just have the head face skimmed the bare minimum to clean up the face. Standard 95 is normally ok on around 10.5 cr but the power difference going from 10 to 10.5 is so little its not worth it for the pinking it may cause, plus with a light skim yr going to be somewhere between the two anyway. Depending on the octane booster used you should be up around 97-98 octane but how long before you forget or get bored adding it all the time ? plus, most fuel stations have a super unleaded around 97-98 anyway... keep it simple.
5. For the power yr looking for, a standard OE clutch will be fine or maybe a 16v cover with yr 8v plate.
6. The K-jet shouldnt have any problems at yr power level, though a good rolling road set-up by an experienced K-jet man will help (Stealth racing for example).
7. A 1900 can be either an 83mm (1870cc) or 83.5mm (1893cc) bore.
If yr head is any good you can see around 145+hp from a 1900, depending on final spec.

My bad , Should have said GS2 , its not a hyraulic head. Cheers for the helpful info!

No probs....
In that case a kent GS2, Piper 285 or Newman 280 would all be good.
A:
the Newman looks the most likely,,, once that lot is done Ah'm goin huntin' Civics !! lol
A:
Should work well, be interested in the results.

The nice man from Newman has emailed me ..after a couple of q's I've decided to get their fast road cam , rather than the rally one , so as to have a nicer mid range. Also looking at their followers.
A:
Is that the 280 degree cam then ? if so, good call.

Well Dave Newman reckons the 264 is a better bet for a road car...

Well I guess they obviously know their own cams and it's no doubt superbly drivable....
