Hi, obviously this a GTI site, and all of you guys (well most) will be
running injection on your valvers. However, is there any chance of
putting some info regarding the installation of a twin carbed valver
lump into non GTI golfs, sciroccos, etc. thats if there is any! i`m
putting a carbed 9a into a scirocco GTII and there are a few things i`m
having trouble with.

theres a few posts about carbs on here but the search function is so fire away with your problems
A:
well, i`ve got all the parts necessary for the conversion, the info i need is more in the nature of fine tuning.
Has anyone done comparisons between velocity stacks to find out which length is best for the 16v?
i`m just wondering because the standard injection manifold has
quite long inlet tracts, and when converting to carbs the inlet length
is a fair bit shorter, this is obviously going to affect
performance/torque etc.
i did have some questions regarding the correct distributor to
use so that i didn`t have to wire up an ecu to control the ignition
timing, but i`ve found what i need. once i`ve spliced two distributors
into one i should be ready to roll.

Have been trying to find a bush kit for the gear links on a MK3, everywhere have the mk2 ones, any ideas or have i got to goto vw?

Had a question regarding switching from the 1.8l to the 2.0.
Currently I have a PL motor in the car (US spec 1.8) and am planning to
upgrade to the 9A. What can I expect as far as engine characteristics
go? I'm running dual exhaust cams now (correctly modified) and the
typical other K-Jet mods including a race DP.
I like the way the 1.8l revs out, I'm curious how the 2.0l will be in
comparison. Also, does anyone know the weight difference between the
two motors?
Thanks in advance.

Hi All,
I'm planning to go 2 litre with my 16v soon (seems rude not to!). I have sourced a complete Audi 6a and will hopefully pick it up at the weekend.
My question is regarding the gearbox. My current original 'box has 140k on it and the usual crunchy second gear so I'd like to sort it when swapping the engine. Is my best bet to find another lower mileage box or get this one reconditioned? Aside from the 2nd gear crunch it's ok if a little vague but I think that's the linkages.
Any ideas? What would I pay to get the 'box overhauled and where would I get it done? I don't want the gearing changing or a different FD or anything, just standard ratios.
Another point is how easy is it to change the Mk2 engine and box without removing the front panel? I'm reluctant to remove it as I don't want to disturb the A/C condensor and piping as it all works at the moment and I'd like it to work afterwards too!
Cheers
Stu

this thread is ace, sooooo needs to be a locked FAQ

Picked up the 6a this afternoon, no doubt there will be plenty of questions from me over the next few months...

Will mine be the first/only air-con 2 litre 16v Mk2 in the UK?

Possibly

Quick question regarding engine mounts for the 6a into my Mk2, are these GSF items suitable or can anyone recommend anything else?
I notice the part number for the rear mount is the same for the 16v as the G60 as I assume that's the one others (Smithy etc) have used?
10139A ENGINE MOUNTING-REAR G2 16V 1/88 >10/91 42.50
31145 GEARBOX MOUNTING-REAR G2 16V 8/90 >10/91 9.60
I am hoping to get hold of a solid front mount from Mr Brown but if I can't what's a good alternative?
Also, is it worth fitting a new water pump whilst swapping engines or should I just stick on the one from the KR block? If it's best to renew, any recommendations?
A:
Stu, King Kwik on here also sells the solid front mounts, don't tell him I told you as he has a habit of kissing me when I send people in his direction
I would fit a new water pump, if it leaks soon after you'll have to strip all the AC and PAS pump bracketry off to replace it.
A:
Good point, cheers for the info Gary, will look into it.

i got my 6A back from the machine shop yesterday, re-bored, new pistons. next thing to do is send the crank, flywheel, pistons & conrods off to tsr for lightening balancing and knife edging.
still waiting for my gasflowed head, then i can start putting it all together
any reccomendations on cams?

Sounds like my 9A engine will be similar to yours. I have a TSR/milltek 4 branch on my car atm, and am v keen to keep her looking externally stock. Do you guys think a brand new OEM 3 box exhaust system will be too restrictive? Should I just go for the 2.25" bore Milltek stainless system? cheers!

I noticed an advert in the back of the latest issue of VWMotoring mag for Mk2 Golf/Jetta A/C bits, might be worth a look?
A:
Big Fat Pixey if you dont mind me asking who are your pistons made by and how much did they cost you also how much did the re-bore cost and where did you get it done i am about to do the same with my 9A block.

My 2.0L is going in this weekend and am find this thread ace well done guys but i'm sure to be on here shortly asking more questions
A:
Not sure where to put this, but for anyone who's doing an ABF Mk2 conversion in the future this could be useful;
If you remove the a/c and PAS pumps on the ABF but want to keep the 6 vee pulley system with it's automatic tensioner, you'll need a completely different fanbelt. I tried three sizes and the best fit was a 987mm long 6 vee pulley.
A:
Stu - can you get away without changing the compressor (is the belt type and layout the same ?) If not you you'll be opening up the system anyway so moving the condensor won't matter.
darnold - I thought you'd be finished by now. Maybe the a/c will be ready for next summer ?
Cheers

Yeah, hoping to get away without opening the A/C system as the compressor and mountings etc should all work with the 6a just the same as the KR. That's the theory anyway, will let you know in a few weeks if it works that way in practice...!

hi, this is my first post on here so first of hey
ok here's my question, i've got a 96 plate mk3 golf gti 2.0 16v and i want to put an induction kit on it. It has a k&n panel filter in it at the moment buit i either want a 57i kit or a pipercross one. now the only problem is that i've been told that the ecu on my car reckonises if it is drawing more air than it should and restricts the engine? so is this true or false and if its true what can i do about it?
Cheers
