A&Q about 350Z
Q:
bad news took the car to have my jamex coilovers fitted and a set-up on the rollers. only to find out my engine is produceing 7psi oil pressure. My friend said either a rebuild or new engine. just wanted to know what people think is best. many thanks on this depressing day.
A:
Bad luck bud...
Is the engine Knocking or smoking at all ? I'm guessing you found out the oil pressure by connecting up a gauge ?
What's the mileage ?
A:
it was behaving badly 2days before backfireing etc. also the person before me earthed the oil pressure wire and when connected it obviously buzzed. so we put a genuine new vw one in and still buzzed. so yeh im not sure how he found out but it was 7psi and aload of metal fillings in the sump. no smoking that i noticed and its done 122,000.
A:
16 valve it
A:
or a 2.0 8v conversion for quick and easy and cheapness
A:
20VT it.
A:
would a 2.0 8v go straight in then? what parts do i need? i.e loom etc?
A:
Paul - take it you have done obvious things like checking/renewing the pump.
A:
The only real way to find out is to connect up a gauge and see exactly what it really is. The metal filings dont sound good (or do you mean the oil's a bit silvery ?). If the pressure "is" low, drop the sump and check the bearings or fit a new oil pump first and see what that does, but you really need to know the pressure first before you start to worry or go spending money.
What do mean by behaving badly ?
Have you had it long, does it use oil or smoke on start-up or on acceleration ?
A:
in 5th gear it would lose power and inital start up it smoked. the filing were filings in the oil. he took the sump off and there was a fairly ne wpump on it. ive only had the car 1mnth. im just not sure what to do i.e fix it or sell it as it is or even break it. as my money situation is not good at present.
A:
Is it knocking? Whip the sump off and check the bearings.
A:
Thats such a nice looking car it would be a shame to break it, do the right thing and give it the engine it deserves to match the looks!
A:
what engine are you thinking off? my local vw specialist where i took it said they can do a g60 conversion fitted for £1400. is that a good engine and price?
A:
depends on the engine condition really!!! 20vt it, you know you want to!
A:
how much is that kind of conversion?
A:
If you are skint, I'd have a look 'round for an 8V GTI engine. You get one for a couple of hundred quid and you'll be able to fit it yourself.
However, before you do this find out the exact problem with the one you have got.
A:
thanks. by the way that is a really nice silver golf you got.
A:
Smoke on initial starting is normally worn guides/valve stem seals so not a real worry unless exessive. Tho loss of power sounds like a different issue.
You really need to see exactly what the oil pressure is or yr just guessing. If the pressure is good just run it. The pump "may" have been renewed because of a problem and "maybe" even the bearings have been replaced and what you've found have been floating around from before (obviously not good but...).
Rig up an oil pressure gauge and if its good just keep an eye on it, maybe then carry out a couple of oil changes to see what comes out and help flush out any debris.
Car looks really good.
A:
thanks. by the way that is a really nice silver golf you got.
Thank you!
A:
It's not his. He stole it.
A:
looking at that makes me want one. what do you guys reckons mines worth as it is. just had a full ss exhaust and new coilovers fitted. thanx
A:
I'm getting shut of mine as I want to get on with doing my Rallye. I reckon yours will be worth 1-1.5k depending on how good it is.
A:
im thinking about breaking it mate. not sure what il get for it but since i bought it ive put alot of money into it and cant really spend any more. how much you looking for yours?
A:
You can make me an offer (via PM) if you like.
A:
not being rude but im not sure what it s worth.
