A&Q about 350Z
Q:
Sounds like yours could do with a strip and rebuild. I'd expect the bearings and bores have taken a hammering with low oil pressure. If you had the sump off, was there any blockage in the pickup pipe?
I couldn't give away my PB bottom end when I upgraded to 2.0, although you can still find buyers for the cylinder heads. So you should be able to pick up a 1.8 engine for next to nothing.
Having said all that, a 2.0 engine is likely to be newer than any 1.8 you'll find, and is a basis for producing a bit more power. If you want to minimise the spend, go for a 2.0 8v with your standard head. Have a look in the FAQ's for the main steps in the 2.0 8v conversion, but it's pretty straight forward.
If you've got a bit more to spend, it's worth converting to 2.0 16v
I reckon. It's a cheaper way to get to 150+ bhp, and then there's another 40-50 in there when you want to spend some more money.
The car looks very tidy in that pic, so if it's that good in the flesh, it's definitely worth fixing again!

hi ive know decided to get my car to work (ward vauxhall dealership) and have a proper look at whats going on in the bottom end. priced up the bits in the worse case senario roughly £100. so hopefully all should be well again.

Worst come to worst just buy another decent engine. Just sold a mint 8v 96k mile, FSH lump and gearbox for £120 and that's after i'd replaced oil, cambelt, tensioner, plugs and HT leads, etc, etc, etc. Some people just need space, keep an eye out on the forums.
