Hi all
I have a bit off a problem with my mk2 1.8 16v golf.
The problem is this, When driving along the revs will start to fluctuate up and down the rev range even if i hold the throttle steady, it will then start to misfire and then eventually cut out.
This happened to me twice today. Once driving along at a steady 50mph and the other time was when i was sitting in the queue to get into my work.
I have changed the spark plugs, the dizzy cap and the rotor arm and also had the timing and co checked but it still happens.
Has anyone any ideas?

Have you had the emissions checked? Mine used to do this after a metering head swap, it was putting out 11% CO at idle........

Oops,missed the bit when you said you'd had it checked. Have you tried a new coil?

nope not tried that. Iwas going to do it tomorrow but wanted to see if anyone had any idea as it's £40 for a new one.

i take it you have checked over all the wires under the bonnet as i had a break in the one to my fuel rail and that had eratic idle and cutting out in reverse because of the engine moving and pulling the wire.
