try a brand new isv i had the same problem and i brought 5 second hand isv's and they all turned out to be faulty, but there are loads of reasons this could why it idles bad.

erm....1.6 8v doesn't have an ISV!
Be patient till rubjonny comes here and answers this...he's the expert on 1.6 carb's

Look on the FAQ below if it's got the original pierburg.
If it's got a Weber then you need to get it set up, or buy the weber manual and have a go yourself.

The carbs on those EZ engines suffer from faulty waxstats. There is actual wax inside it and controls the fuel/air enrichment. When these fail, the idle stays high.
