Oil Cooler Nightmare

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

Hi Guys,
I have been working on my car for four days and cannot fix this problem.
I have a mk2 valver with a 1991 euro spec engine.
Where the oil cooler mounts onto the housing above the two coolant pipes on the front of the block, the seal will not hold. My engine starts up and immediately oil p**ses out from the rubber gasket under presure. No oil leaks from the filter and the cooler is locked tight against the housing with a locknut. I have tried a new rubber seal and no joy.
Its costing me a fortune in oil as im loosing a half a pint a second while the car is running - and obviously I cant drive it anywhere.
Im not sure if the oil cooler itself (square block with the two coolant lines) is bent!
Any ideas - I need to drive it 500 miles on Fri morn!!!!!!!!!!!
Cheers

Drop the filter off, undo the lock nut and try tightening the tube into the casting, it might be loosening. it sounds to me like the nut isn't going tight enough. try checking the threads on the tube too. You could have crushed to cooler I suppose.... There's no way that there could be an obstruction in the actual cooler is there?

Hi Toad,
The cooler is running through fine, have a backup and that also leaks oil when mated up to the housing, might have to get to GSF in the morn and buy a brand new cooler and some more fresh seals - only thing left to replace (cooler)
I have had it sealed and really really tight. Although once the engine is running I have seen the rubber o-ring slowly get pushed out of the gap between cooler and housing through oil pressure untill the oil leaks from the displaced o-ring!! Never done this before and none of the bits are new other than the o-rings.
Only took it off to replace the cooler housing gasket!!

I replaced the rubber seal on my 90' Digipants over the last weekend and had no problems.
Like Toad said, take oil filter off, loosen the nut on the oil cooler and tighten the tube up. I got my seal from the stealership (about 3 squids) and noticed that it had 'ears' on the inner radius to help it stay in position.
I applied a smear of oil to the seal before fitting and did the same to the oil filter seal. Could it be a faulty oil filter? Possibly locking up, not allowing the oil to flow thru, therefore forcing the oil find another route?

When I visit gsf tomorrow morn will get another oil filter so as to rule out the blocked one theory, to be honest I am willing to give anything a go!!
Should the tube also have a locknut on to secure it to the housing or is it just a case of tightening with molegrips??
Another question, is it possible to fit the oil cooler upside down as mine has the seal with the "ears on" sitting against the oil filter, and the seal which is blowing is just your run of the mill rubber o-ring (earless!!)
Cheers Fellas for the help
