A&Q about 350Z
Q:
Bear with me.............i have a mk2 golf 98 pb digifant engine, will this fit into any 1800 scirocco of the same year and later?...ie mounts...injection/carb issues.......it may be a silly question but i just have'nt had the time to go down the scrapyard yet and have a squiz.
A:
engine (i.e. block) will fit
A:
Perfect................If anybody raises any issues that could be a problem i would be grateful. I am hoping the ECU system is the same for the scirocco injection models. I would expect so ....but then i am usually wrong.
A:
you would be wrong in this case, the scirocco was a mechanical injection car and the PB is a a dig. You can swap it all over and use the scirocco fuel pumps with the digifant system, I have a PB in a mk1 I just needed to modify the airbox to fit but its fairly simple (when I look back at least...)
A:
There are only two other issues i need to sort out then...........firstly it has a dirty great T34 turbo on it and i was concerened about the space available in the dowpipe region..........the other is it has an aquamist system for a fifth injector and i have no idea how this integrates with the current ECU..............better star buying some manuals on that puppy i reckon.............any advice is more than appreciated!
I would have loved to put the motor in a MK1 but the MK2's sell for peanuts and there are more than enough to get hold of.
A:
you can convert a digi head to k-jet simply by swapping over the injector seats, the rocker cover and sometimes the coolant flange on the front of the head depending on the age of the digi car.
A:
So the sciroccos run a k-jet system?...................so the cover, injector seats and the coolant flange ...thats all??....and i can use the same ECU.............sounds too good to be true..........!!!!!! ARE you Sure!!
A:
roccos are k-jet yep. The rocco head will probably have solid tappets, while the digi will be hydro, thats the only real difference
Edited
A:
Even better...........the hydraulic lifters in mine are noisy.....and i can't get my head round the mechanics of them.solid lifters are definately for monkey boys like me.........thanks for the advise...........i think maybe a head swap is in order.....

Yep.
I had a PB (Digifant hydraulic engine) in my MK1 many years back. I think from memory I had to open up the holes in the injector inserts because the inserts from a mechanical head are a slightly different size... or maybe i could'nt get em out due to being seized in place (it "was" ten years ago !).
Also, the camshaft in a hydraulic engine is a "slightly" softer spec.

not as far as I'm aware, sciroccos were either carb or K-Jet, there were some late Mk1 cabriolets (forget what country they were supplied to now) that were digifant but that was the only A1 based car with digi as I remember.
A:
Whoops, I meant to say(write) k-jet
If it was a digi then you wouldn't need to swap the inserts over...

This might have been something to do with the injectors, there are 2 different types fitted to K-Jet engines depending on the year, course & fine thread IIRC and the inserts are different as well.
Edit: Looking at ETKA there are 4 different injectors, though only 2 which have DX specifically mentioned. The early ones are M10x1 thread, and later ones are M12x1.5. There are only 2 types of insert listed however.
A:
very unprofessional John [shakes head]
A:
2 types of injector are summat to do with later ones having 'air shrouding' W ever TF that is.....
A:
Yes sometimes my brain goes all to sh*t

Did'nt think I was going mad "just" yet ! The hydraulic (PB) engine was never as "snappy" as the old Mechanical (DX) that I took out, even though the original engine was a smoker, put it down to the slightly softer cam & hydraulic set-up.
