A&Q about 350Z
Q:
I'm after the back box and the next box (got no idea what its called) for a mk3 16v GTi. I don't want a really noisy exhaust system as do quite a lot of driving but was looking for suggestions as I may aswell upgrade. Not looking to spend loads. Thanks

Hi,
You could try a Jetex exhaust, they are marketed as "The quiet performer". Although by no means boy racer loud they are louder than a standard system as they are a sports exhaust.
A:
jetex exhausts come recommended for quietness. I prefer my Militek though, but then my car is ridiculously loud.
A:
Im looking into an exhaust at the moment, whats the Miltek like? Worth saving for? Is the sound boomy and drony or nice and throaty?
Cheers

I've got a magnex for my mk3 8v and its sounds nice when you open it up but pretty quite at part loads and on the motorway. The cat back system is the same for both the 8v and your 16v you just get an additional length piece for the 16v which you don't need for the 8v.

Militek sounds awesome when you open up the car up. Mates with RX7, Skyline, Focus RS all in agreement that it is almost the perfect noise from inside the car when taking off. Sounds like something out of F1 or something. Good discreet styling on the tail pipes too!
A:
Hmmmm, Im wondering, I've got a Driver. But I'm a fussy bugger when it comes to settling for second best.
*itches chin*
A:
db, I'm interested to know if you have the whole milltek system as on their site (all original silencers present) or if you have replaced any silencers like the centre box with a straight through pipe? Milltek are usually renowned for being very quite exhausts, but sounds as though not in ths case?
A:
Militek 4 branch and straight through exhaust. No centre box... just the back box. Is good stuff.
A:
Jetex all the way. On my 8v i use 8v flowed manifold, 16v downpipes and a 16v jetex system (way better flow than an 8v).
They sound (not too loud) and fit great.
A:
I'v got a Magnex full system. Nice when cruising, louder when you open her up. Good quality and fits great aswell. I went for it because everyone goes for a Jetex, and I wanted to be different.
A:
I love the Jetex systems, and now i have an account with them as well

I love the Jetex systems but I wish you could get a stainless version for a Scirocco
I asked them about it and they said they were too low a volume sales wise to make it worth their while.

Tell me about it
Still, their 2.5" system sounds lovely...
A:
Jetex 2.5 and i find it very annoying on motorways and generally a bit loud. It has that booming, vibrating tone at around 3.5 - 4, not good.
4 branch stainless, gas flowed head and inlet + cams, so that wont help matters.
Sounds good when you floor it though, non of this rattly soundingrubbish, nice and deep sound to it.
A:
My Dad's old scala had a boomy-ness to it whereas 2 of my Scirocco's with the same exhaust have not been. Strange. See it it's touching the body anywhere and letting noise through.
Aside from that the only differences between Dad's and my cars have been the downpipes, but I can't imagine that was the cause of the extra noise...

So what are your opinions on the best sounding system? Milltek, Supersprint, Jetex?
I'm looking for something that won't wake the neighbours in the early morning like my Magnex rear box. It rumbles like you wouldn't believe.
A:
I found that my Supersprint system was too quiet. I took the middle box out and even then it was too quiet!
Haven't heard a Milltek, so I'd go for a Jetex

Ive got a full Milltek system on my 8v and its fkin perfect. Very good quality and perfect fitment, not tooo loud and fairly standard looking.
I had a Jetex before which was also good but the fitment wasnt as good (backbox always looked slightly tilted no matter what!) and it was a little too loud and boy racer for me.
You wont be disapointed with a Milltek, although it might still wake your neighbours up if you floor it up the road.
A:
my magnex is poo!
normally a bit farty and really boomy at 4k
this link will tell u all about it!
A:
Another vote for Jetex
Nice background bassy rumble when idling, but not too loud.
Great sound when flooring it and coming off the throttle
A:
What about longlife? I have heard good things about them?
A:
I will probably buy militek exhausts for any cars I own. Have been super impressed by it..... its not quiet though, but then I dont want it to be quiet.
A:
I heard some poor reports on Miltek for my A3 Quattro and the S3, but then a lot of it is down to who fits it. I took my car to a place in Walsall called MIJ Performace and had a custom 2.5" Stainless exhaust fitted. It was only £350 from the Cat back with a lifetime guarantee. PM me and I will probably be able to sort out a discount as I know the guy now. Very happy with it. Audi wanted the fat end of £600 plus fitting for the factory part!
Will look around for a new exhaust for the Cab as it is a bit more refined than my Audi. Plus they seem to be fairly reasonable compared to the Audi parts.

Thanks for all the replies, think I might go for the Jetex. Been looking at pictures off them and the tail pipes seem to be at a slight angle. Anyone with one can you let me know if they look straight when they are fitted or are at a slight angle?
